  9. Council spends £8m on buying commercial properties for rental income

    Local Democracy Reporting Service

    TK Maxx in Worcester

Sedgemoor District Council has spent £8m buying a TKMaxx store on Worcester High Street.

It's part of a £50m investment in commercial property over the next three years, with the rental income being used to fund frontline services.

The council agreed in February 2018 to make the investments and has since bought the Street Retail Park in December 2018 for £8.2m.

The investment was only made public at a full council meeting on Wednesday due to commercial sensitivity.

The council said it would make a total of £1m a year from both properties.

  10. Railway arches to host four festivals

Worcester will host four festivals next year, to coincide with the opening of the city's railway arches, from Foregate Street to the Hive.

It will start with a Festival of Light in January and it could be followed by an ice cream festival by the Riverside in the summer.

    Arches design

The arches plans are part of larger proposals to build 3,000 new homes and create parks, public spaces and cycle routes in the city.

  11. Operation 'stop that sheep' gets under way

Police have been pulling over livestock vehicles in Shropshire, Herefordshire and Worcestershire, in an attempt to crack down on cattle-rustling.

The West Mercia Police force says thieves have been taking animals from farms and attempting to sell them on through livestock markets.

  13. Pub prepares to serve Christmas meals in August

A Worcester pub says it's had an "amazing" response after announcing it was going to serve its Christmas dinners this month, instead of December.

Dave Davies and his partner Heidi, who run the Maple Leaf on Canada Way, said it started out as a joke, because they struggle to get enough staff over Christmas.

    Christmas dinner

Heidi said that when one of their regulars suggested they serve the meals in the summer they thought they'd take up the challenge.

They'll be putting up decorations, giving dinners crackers and playing Christmas music - there will even be an appearance by Santa.

The pub also held a St Patrick's Day event in July.
