  4. Beverley hosts alternative folk festival

    Local folk musicians will perform in pubs and clubs around Beverley this weekend, as they look to replace the defunct Beverley folk festival.

    The Beverley folk festival was called off in April, after the firm which ran it went bust.

    The festival started in 1984 and was to be held for the sixth time at Beverley Racecourse in June.

    This evening's Beverley fringe festival will see acts perform at a number of local pubs and the East Riding Theatre.

  5. Police test facial recognition technology

    Humberside Police are testing facial recognition technology at Humber ports to try and identify wanted people.

    The two day trial, which was done in partnership with the Metropolitan Police, was carried out at King George Docks earlier this week.

    The forces say initial tests indicate using the technology was a success.

  7. Elderly man knocked over during Hessle shop theft

    An 80-year-old man has been left with injuries to his head and elbow after he was knocked to the floor by two men during a shop theft in Hessle.

    CCTV images have been released of the suspects.

    The incident happened at the Co-op supermarket on Hessle Square just before 10:00 on 21 April.

  8. MP welcomes rail investment

    Andrew Percy, the MP for Brigg and Goole, has said the news that 94 new underground trains will be built at the new Siemens factory in Goole is "brilliant".

    The contract will help bring 700 new manufacturing jobs to the town and an estimated 50 new apprentice and graduate positions will be created.

    The contract is worth £1.5 billion to Siemens.

  9. Foot to the pedal for Beverley bike festival

    A bicycle stunt team, a penny-farthing and other types of bikes will all feature in this year's Beverley bike festival.

    The free event will be held in Beverley’s Saturday Market on Sunday.

    The whole of the market place will become a huge cycling playground with plenty of free family activities.

    There will also be three organised family bike rides around Beverley.

  10. Hull Trains cancel services

    Hull Trains have cancelled the 15.12 Hull to London Kings Cross service.

    The 18.48 London Kings Cross to Beverley service has also been cancelled.

  12. Strikes at three Yorkshire colleges suspended

    Strike action by staff at three Yorkshire colleges which was due to take place from Monday has been called off.

    Hull College Group, which runs colleges in Hull, Goole and Harrogate, has begun a restructuring plan to deal with a £10m deficit, putting 231 jobs at risk.

    Monday's strike was planned to follow a three-day walkout in May by University and College Union (UCU) members.

    In a joint statement, Hull College Group and the UCU say the strike action next week has been suspended following "positive" talks.

    Both groups say they will continue to work together to avoid compulsory redundancies as part of the restructure:
