    There really will be bluebirds over the White Cliffs of Dover today as part of celebrations to mark Dame Vera Lynn`s 100th birthday. 

    The 50ft birds will be serenaded by military re-enactors as the Forces' Sweetheart is honoured for her wartime service.

  5. Ramsgate named as heritage action zone

    Ramsgate's been chosen as one of the UK's first ten heritage action zones. 

    The town will receive nearly half a million pounds from Historic England. 

    The money will be used to restore buildings into housing, retail or community spaces. 

    The aim is to transform historic sites into visitor attractions over the next five years.

  10. Hundreds of children suspended for drugs or alcohol offences

    BBC Radio Kent has discovered that 380 children in the county have been suspended from school in a single year for drug or alcohol offences.

    Fourteen were given a permanent exclusion.

    Now an addiction charity is working with 75 schools in the county to help combat the problem.

    The singer is best known for her 1939 hit "We'll Meet Again", which was hugely popular with troops overseas and their families back home during World War Two. 

    These days she's a well known figure in her hometown of Ditchling.

    A day of celebration is being held to mark the 100th birthday of Dame Vera Lynn. 

    The singer, songwriter and actress, who lives in Ditchling, became hugely popular during World War Two and was widely referred to as "The Forces' Sweetheart".

    A 350ft image of Dame Vera is being projected onto the White Cliffs of Dover.

    The singer said she was thrilled by the tributes and would be thinking of all those servicemen who'd glanced back at the cliffs as they headed off to war.
