£10m lottery cash boost for Blackpool mental health project

A lottery grant of £10m has been awarded to a project in Blackpool which aims to help prevent youngsters developing mental health issues.

The HeadStart project gets teachers, young people, charities, parents, GPs and councils to work together to help young people develop.  

Taylor Morrison-Eves, 18, has been closely involved with setting up the project, which targets children aged 10-16.

He said “One of the main issues that we’ve found is transitioning from primary school to high school, a lot of young people who are transitioning from year six, year seven they get a lot of worries and a lot of anxieties”.

Probe into girl's death: No arrests made

An investigation is continuing into the "unexplained" death. No arrests have been made.

A 12-year-old girl has died after she was found unresponsive at a caravan park in Fleetwood.

Paramedics and police were called to Cala Gran Holiday Park at about 21.40 on Monday, Lancashire Police said.

The girl was taken to Blackpool Victoria Hospital for treatment but later died, and her death is being treated as "unexplained".

A police investigation has been launched and a post-mortem examination will take place.

Football: Preston defender on crutches after Oldham knee-injury

Preston North End boss Simon Grayson says right-back Callum Woods could be out for "months" rather than weeks after injuring his knee in last night's pre-season friendly win at Oldham.

The 29-year-old left the field on a stretcher following a strong first-half challenge with Oldham's Jamie Reckford.

Grayson told the club's website: "He's on crutches at the moment and it's probably going to be months rather than weeks; that's an early diagnosis but it didn't look too good."

Travel: Overturned lorry closes Chorley road

Clifford Street in Chorley is closed in both directions between the Hollinshead Street and Union Street junctions due to an overturned lorry.

An accident involving a number of vehicles including a caravan has closed Finnington Lane, Blackburn.

The ambulance service attended although the injuries are described as slight.  

The road is closed in both directions between Blackburn West and the Riley Green Switch Road junction.

Burnley have signed Iceland winger Johann Berg Gudmundsson and keeper Nick Pope from Charlton Athletic.

Both players have joined the Premier League newcomers for undisclosed fees and on three-year deals, with an option for a further year.
