  2. £86k court costs for Morecambe FC ownership dispute to proceed

    A Brazilian businessman has been ordered to pay £86,000 in costs to proceed with a court case disputing the ownership of Morecambe FC.

    Diego Lemos is contesting the ownership of the club's parent company G50 Holdings in a dispute with North East-based tax consultant Graham Burnard.

    A hearing at the Civil Justice Centre in Manchester ordered Lemos - who was not present at the court - to pay the sum by 17:00 on 16 May.

    Mr Burnard's solicitor Lynne Brooke welcomed the ruling.

  5. 'Ecstatic' Abi all set for Wembley

    Suffolk official Abi Marriott was left speechless after being told she will be an assistant referee at this season’s Women’s FA Cup Final.

    The 25-year-old from Mildenhall will be running the line at the match between Birmingham City and Manchester City at Wembley Stadium on Saturday, 13 May.

    "It is definitely the pinnacle of my career," Marriott said. 

    "Every referee dreams of walking out at Wembley for a national final."

    Abi was encouraged to take up the whistle six years ago by her fiancé and fellow referee George Byrne.

    "When I started I had no idea I would get this far, but as I’ve progressed my achievable targets have changed."

  6. Van driver dies in five-vehicle crash on M55

    A van driver from Chorley has died in a crash with another van, two lorries and a car on the M55 near Kirkham.

    The crash, which happened at about 08:45, closed the motorway in both directions for several hours, while emergency services worked at the scene.

    A 34-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and remains in police custody.

    The eastbound carriageway has now fully reopened, while all but one lane of the westbound carriageway remains closed.

    Police have appealed for anyone who saw what happened to get in touch.

    Peter Kay has said there will be no more episodes of TV sitcom Car Share.

    Series two reaches its climax on BBC One later, but many fans have already seen the finale on BBC iPlayer and know what happens between John and Kayleigh.

    But the star told BBC Radio Manchester there will be no series three and no Christmas specials.

    Asked whether John would ever switch from Forever FM to Radio Manchester, Kay replied: "There's not going to be a series three so it won't ever happen."

    He added: "You've got to get out while the going's good. No Christmas special, no."

    Viewers have been waiting throughout series two to find out whether John - played by Kay - finally gets together with his passenger Kayleigh, played by Sian Gibson.
