He's been giving evidence to the Commons' Science and Technology committee:

  7. Keyhole surgery success for children with heart disease

    Jamie Coulson

    Health Correspondent, BBC Look North

A keyhole procedure that was originally pioneered by doctors in Leeds to treat children with heart disease has for the first time been shown to be more successful than open heart surgery.

    Heart surgery

The technique increases blood flow to the lungs for new-born babies by propping open a blood vessel that would normally close soon after birth.

A small plastic tube, called a catheter, is inserted into the groin and guided up to the heart and once in position a small mesh tube, called a stent, is inflated by balloon to hold the blood vessel open.

By collecting data from hospitals across the UK, doctors have been able to show that babies who have this keyhole procedure stand a better chance of survival than open heart patients.

  12. Northern strike: Advice for train passengers

Be warned if you travel by train around Yorkshire tomorrow as there's another day of strike action as part of a long-running dispute over driver-only operated trains.

    Train

Northern say that they will operate about 65% of their normal weekday timetable, with the majority of trains running between 07:00 and 19:00.

But you can expect these services to be very busy, and people who are going to the Meadowhall Christmas Live event are being told to "make alternative travel arrangements for their journey home."

Arriva Rail North, which manages Northern, said it had hoped to work with the RMT union to resolve the issue, but the RMT say the dispute is about public safety and Northern were "going through the motions".

  14. Watch: Yorkshire free-runner takes international title

    BBC Look North

Teenager Elise Bickley from Sheffield seems to see railings, drops and bars as a challenge rather than as obstacles.

When the 13-year-old comes across them she becomes alive, using them as props as she goes into twists, spins, vaults and somersaults.

Such is her skill at Parkour, or free-running, that Elise is now thought to be the youngest women's champion at the Air Wipp Challenge, held recently in Sweden.

Take a look at her skills.
