  2. Warning over festive 'fatbergs' in Sheffield

Pouring the juices from festive cooking down the sink can help cause "fatbergs" - like the one pictured below - to form in Sheffield's sewer network, local residents are being warned.

    CCTV image of fatberg

The fats, oils and greases from meat and gravy often stick together in narrow sewers and create a blockage which costs thousands of pounds to fix.

Over the past year, 131 sewer blockages have been reported in Sheffield - caused by wet wipes and luxury toilet roll which doesn't biodegrade like ordinary toilet paper, according to Yorkshire Water.

In December this year, there have already been 2,500 sewer blockages across Yorkshire, the firm adds.

It's asking its customers to only flush "the three p's: poo, pee and paper" down the toilet.

Waste water manager Lindsay Page says: "We’re asking people to put their sewer on a low-fat diet and think twice before they pour fat, oil and grease down the sink or through the dishwasher."

The firm says the best method to dispose of fat juices is to pour them into a jar and then put it in the general waste bin.

  3. CCTV appeal over thefts from York supermarket

Chairman Michael Carter said after a "positive meeting" the club now understands the proposals "more fully".

He added: "We now accept that there is no basis for any legal action."
