  1. Witness appeal after fatal Leeds crash

    Police are appealing for witnesses following a crash on a major road in Leeds at the weekend in which one man died.

    Stanningley Bypass

    The collision, betweeen a white Skoda Yeti SUV and a white DAF tipper truck, happened at about 19:00 on Saturday on the Stanningley Bypass near Richardshaw Lane.

    The 46-year-old male driver of the Yeti was pronounced dead at the scene.

    The driver of the truck, which had broken down, was not in his vehicle at the time and wasn't hurt.

    Anyone who witnessed the incident or the circumstances leading up to it, particularly anyone who was driving in the area and has dashcam footage showing the collision itself or either vehicle prior to it, is being asked to contact police.

    Humberside Police are asking for the public's help in finding the boy.

  4. Huddersfield Town 'surf' out of relegation zone

    Huddersfield Town earned their first away win of the season and moved out of the Premier League relegation zone with a 2-0 win at Wolves at the weekend.

    Australian Aaron Mooy scored in either half to ensure the Terriers moved up to 14th in the table.

    Huddersfield arrived in the West Midlands with the worst scoring record in the division, mustering just six goals from their opening 12 games.

    Terriers manager David Wagner said: "Away wins are always very important in the Premier League and now we have the first one we have to try and surf on this wave we have created."

  6. National Videogame Museum reopens in Sheffield

    The UK's only videogame museum has opened at its new base in Sheffield.

    The National Videogame Museum features dozens of playable consoles and arcade machines with classics such as Space Invaders and PacMan.

    It was previously based in Nottingham but closed because the building had become too hard to maintain.

    To coincide with the opening, a selection of titles made in Sheffield are on display, including Snake Pass, Monty Mole and Gang Beasts.

  7. Yorkshire faces climate change risks - Report

    Yorkshire could be more at risk from wildfires, heatwaves and flooding because of climate change, a new report suggests.

    In the report, Friends of the Earth reveals the places in England most at risk from the impact of global warming and calls on the government to do more to hit targets to cut carbon dioxide emissions.

    Simon Bowens, Friends of the Earth coordinator for Yorkshire, said: "Places like York and Leeds and many towns and villages in the region are living under the constant threat of flooding."

    The report is published today to mark the 10th anniversary of the Climate Change Act.

    The BBC has approached the Environment Agency for comment.

  10. In pictures: Steampunk fans descend on Bronte village

    The sixth annual Steampunk Weekend in Haworth has just been held - bringing strange scenes to the village more famous for its railway and the Bronte sisters.

    Steampunk has been described as "nostalgia for what never was" and draws on a wide variety of influences from HG Wells to comics.

    Costumed fans of the Victorian science fiction phenomenon took part in all sorts of activities in Haworth, including burlesque performances, a fashion show and a masquerade ball.

    If you're making a journey on the rails in North, South and West Yorkshire today, most services appear to be running to time at the moment.

    However, be aware that there's major disruption to services from Hull because of over-running engineering works.

    Otherwise:

  13. Man and woman arrested over Huddersfield 'gunshots'

    A man and a woman have been arrested following reports of gunshots in Huddersfield.

    Lockwood Road

    Armed police surrounded a business on Lockwood Road and the main road was closed for several hours following emergency calls at about 10:45 on Sunday.

    No-one was hurt and police said evidence of a firearm being discharged was yet to be confirmed.

    Extra patrols are in place and witnesses are being asked to contact West Yorkshire Police.

    The two have been arrested in connection with the discharge of a firearm, the force added.

  14. Major disruption as trains from Hull cancelled

    Most trains out of Hull have been cancelled this morning because of over-running engineering works.

    It means there are no services running west out of Hull and replacement buses are being run instead.

    Network Rail advises anyone travelling between Hull and Goole and Hull and Selby in North Yorkshire to check before they travel. You can click this link to do so.

    This will also affect passengers travelling between Hull and York, Hull and London and Hull and Leeds.

    Network Rail says it is working quickly to resolve the issue.
