  3. Racist attack on train at Wakefield Westgate

    A passenger on a train from Chesterfield to Wakefield Westgate was racially abused by two men, police say.

    CCTV FOOTAGE

    Two men got on the train at Chesterfield, on the Plymouth to Glasgow service, at about 15:30 on 30 November.

    They racially abused a man and threatened him with violence.

    Another passenger tried to help, but was also abused.

    The suspects left at Wakefield Westgate.

    Officers would like to speak to the men in the image in connection with the incident.

  5. West Yorkshire men jailed for selling drugs on dark web

    Three men who sold potentially deadly drugs on the dark web have been jailed.

    Jake Levene, Mandy Lowther and Lee Childs

    Jake Levene, 22, Lee Childs, 45, and Mandy Christopher Lowther, 21, all from West Yorkshire, admitted supplying Fentanyl via an internet site.

    The painkiller is 100 times more potent than morphine and has been linked to more than 125 deaths in the UK.

    At Leeds Crown Court, Levene and Lowther were both jailed for 16 years and six months while Childs was jailed for 10 years and six months.

  7. New bridge to connect Leeds city centre to South Bank

    A £1.5m pedestrian bridge connecting Leeds city centre to South Bank will be unveiled on Wednesday.

    The 50-metre structure over the the River Aire aims to provide links for Cross Green and Hunslet residents.

    Journey times into central Leeds will be halved from 20 to 10 minutes, according to bridge developer Citu.

  9. Rail workers in Yorkshire to stage more strikes next month

    Rail workers are to stage fresh strikes next month in the long-running dispute over guards on trains, causing more travel disruption in Yorkshire.

    An RMT flag

    There will be industrial action on Northern trains on the first three Saturdays of February, with few services running after 17:00.

    The RMT Union says it is making "every effort to get serious and meaningful talks going with Northern but the company are not interested".

    Northern have asked customers to "plan their travel carefully," check timetables "well in advance" and not to rely on "the last trains home".
