  2. Witness appeal after fatal Rotherham crash

    Police officers in Maltby are trying to track down potential witnesses to a fatal crash which happened earlier this month.

    Lindsey Burton (pictured), 34, died in hospital the day after the car she was driving was involved in a crash with a Scania LGV and a silver Citroen Picasso.

    The incident happened on the A631 Tickhill Road at about 15:40 on Wednesday 12 June.

    Police have now released this image as they continue to search for witnesses:

    It's hoped the driver of the green Vauxhall Corsa (pictured) might have seen the crash and could help officers with their investigation.

    The car is believed to be a 2015 or newer Corsa which has been modified with a spoiler.

  4. Hull MP hails John Bercow as 'best speaker ever'

    A Hull Labour MP has referred to John Bercow as "the best speaker ever" ahead of the 10th anniversary of him taking the job.

    Karl Turner, MP for Hull East, also shared a Twitter message including "one of his best lines" since becoming Commons Speaker on 22 June 2009.

    Fortunately, it looks like the city's Labour MP isn't one to hold a grudge:

  6. Four arrested as suspected stolen cars found in Wawne

    Police have arrested four men after suspected stolen cars and car parts were found in an East Yorkshire village following a tip-off from a member of the public.

    The suspects, aged 71, 40, 23, and 21, were arrested following "an extensive search" of a property in Wawne.

    Officers found an Audi and a Nissan Qashqai, which are suspected to have been stolen, along with numerous motor parts.

    Humberside Police say they are linking the cars to burglaries on Minster Close in Hull on 13 June and on Compass Road on 31 May this year.

    The arrested men have since been released under investigation while inquiries continue, police say.

  8. MP praises emergency response to Harrogate fire

    Andrew Jones, Conservative MP for Harrogate, has paid tribute to the efforts of the emergency services dealing with a fire at a shop in the town centre earlier.

  9. Leeds station: Man jailed over gantry rush hour chaos

    A man who climbed over a gantry at Leeds railway station, disrupting thousands of passengers' journeys and costing rail firms more than £1m has been jailed for six months.

    Peter Myers, 36, of no fixed abode, initially refused to come off the gantry and trained police negotiators were called to the scene, with delays to services for about nine hours on 30 May.

    Myers, who was taken for an assessment but found not to have mental health issues, admitted a charge of obstructing an engine or carriage by using the railway unlawfully.

    In a statement after the sentencing Network Rail said: "We welcome this sentence as this was an act which put his life in danger, delayed passengers and caused widespread disruption to services."

  12. 'A special place' - Alan Titchmarsh on Harlow Carr at 70

    TV gardener Alan Titchmarsh has opened the RHS Garden Harlow Carr Flower Show as the famous garden celebrates its 70th anniversary.

    The three-day event, in Harrogate, runs from today until Sunday and features talks, demonstrations and a host of specialist nurseries and trade stands.

    Titchmarsh, the RHS Ambassador and Vice-President, who celebrated his 70th birthday on 2 May, says: "If I look any bit as good as the flowers here do at 70 I'll be very happy.

    "How very nice to share a birthday with Harlow Carr. It's a very special place and it deserves to be cherished by all Yorkshire folk."
