  4. More talks to avert Tube stike

    Union leaders and Tube bosses are due to meet today to try and avert more strikes over job losses and ticket office closures. 

    The dispute led to a 24-hour strike this time last week and the RMT's already warned it will escalate its campaign of industrial action next month if there's no agreement

  5. Strike-hit Govia Thameslink seeks Southern train drivers

    A strike-hit rail operator will restart a recruitment campaign to hire trainee drivers to try to reduce disruption.

    The aim is to reduce reliance on rest-day working, the rail operator said

    Govia Thameslink (GTR) is seeking new drivers for the Southern network, which has seen months of strikes in a dispute with the RMT and Aslef unions.

    GTR said the company wanted to reduce its reliance on rest-day working.

    Ongoing action by Aslef includes an overtime ban, which Southern says causes daily disruption. Aslef said the firm had never employed enough drivers.

    Both the RMT and Aslef are opposing changes to guards' roles on trains.

  6. Piccadilly Circus lights go out for site renovations

    The lights of Piccadilly Circus are have been switched off for the longest period of time since World War Two.

    The famous billboard, which has displayed electrical advertisements for more than a century, went dark this morning.

    It is the first time since 1949 that the iconic lights have gone off, except for power cuts and special occasions.

    A temporary advertising banner will replace the lights until a new single screen is unveiled in the autumn.

  7. Breast cancer patients' distress at withdrawal of Kadcyla

    Terminal breast cancer patients have spoken of their distress after learning that a life-extending drug they had been told would be available to them looks set to be withdrawn.

    Bonnie Fox says she was "completely devastated" on finding Kadcyla was no longer available on the NHS

    National advisory body NICE is reviewing drugs made available through the old cancer drugs fund, and has rejected Kadcyla for use on the NHS.

    It believes the price per patient set by manufacturer Roche is too expensive. Roche says discussions are continuing.

    Bonnie Fox, who is 39 and from Croydon, south London, told the BBC's Victoria Derbyshire programme said the move felt "cruel".

  9. Travel update: Severe delays on District Line

    There are severe delays on the District Line between Upminster and Barking after someone was taken ill on train. 

    There are also minor delays between Earl’s Court and Edgware Road on the Circle Line after a signal failure. 

    Southeastern trains have delays of over half an hour and lots of cancellations because of over-running engineering works between Hither Green and Lewisham.
