    Change UK MP Chuka Umunna says he has switched to the Liberal Democrats because he was "wrong" to think "millions of politically homeless people" wanted a new party.

    The former Labour MP for Streatham told Today he had "massively underestimated just how difficult it is to set up a fully-fledged new party without an existing infrastructure".

    Shadow foreign secretary and Islington South and Finsbury MP Emily Thornberry tweeted: "Thinking today of the victims of Grenfell: the residents, their families and the local community.

    "Why have lessons not been learnt? Why are there still, 2 years on, residents in temporary accommodation? Why are flats still covered in flammable cladding?"

  5. Sajid Javid: We shall never forget

    On the second anniversary of the Grenfell Tower fire, Home Secretary Sajid Javid tweeted: "We shall never forget the heartbreaking Grenfell fire. My thoughts are with those who lost their lives, homes & loved ones two years ago today. We will continue to support victims & ensure such an appalling tragedy never happens again."

    Mr Javid was communities secretary at the time of the fire and promised a range of reforms to social housing in response to the tragedy.

    A white paper on the proposals is yet to be published.

  6. Grenfell survivors 'continue to inspire us' - Met Police

    Scotland Yard have released a statement on the second anniversary of the Grenfell Tower fire:

  9. Grenfell Tower: Hundreds of buildings still have 'unsafe' cladding

    More than 200 high-rise buildings in England with cladding similar to that used on Grenfell Tower have yet to begin work to remove it.

    Out of 328 buildings that still have aluminium composite material (ACM) cladding, 221 are awaiting work to start.

    Events on Friday will mark the second anniversary of the Grenfell Tower fire in which 72 people died.

    The government will pay £200m to remove ACM from privately owned blocks.

  11. Chuka Umunna joins the Lib Dems after quitting Change UK

    Former Labour and Change UK MP Chuka Umunna has joined the Lib Dems.

    The Streatham MP told the Timeshe had been "wrong" to think "millions of politically homeless people... wanted a new option on the ballot paper".

    "I also think I vastly underestimated the importance of having an infrastructure and existing relationships with voters," he added.

    He was one of six Change UK MPs to quit last week, after it gained only 3.4% of the vote in the European elections.
