Old Trafford fake bomb had white label with 'training aid' written on it.

The security firm behind the fake bomb find at Old Trafford said the device had a small white label with "training aid" written on it and "wasn't concealed".

The mock pipe bomb was found in a toilet block in the stadium ahead of Manchester United's games against Bournemouth yesterday.

Christopher Reid, the managing director of Security Search Management & Solutions Ltd, said: "The mistake is entirely mine, I have to take full responsibility."

Security chief apologises for 'devastating mistake' over Old Trafford fake bomb

A security chief who signed off a fake bomb as recovered after a training exercise at Old Trafford has apologised for making "a devastating mistake".

The device was left behind, leading to the postponement of Manchester United's match against Bournemouth yesterday.

Chris Reid, head of Security Search Management & Solutions Ltd, said he logged the item as found on Wednesday.

The club said the device could not have been detected by sniffer dogs.

Sensory bus to be loaned to fire-damaged Dukenfield special school

A special school that was damaged in a fire is to be loaned a sensory bus to use as a classroom.

Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue

Cromwell High School in Dukenfield, which teaches children with special needs, will receive the bus as a temporary replacement for its sensory room which was blocked off following the fire on 15 April.

The bus will remain until the sensory room is available and will ensure "minimal interruption" to pupils' development while the school is repaired.

Crackdown on illegal workers in Greater Manchester

Seven firms in Greater Manchester have been warned they could face heavy fines over the use of illegal workers.

In the last week, immigration enforcement officers have visited businesses in Manchester, Longsight, Wigan, Oldham, Didsbury and Cheetham Hill.

They arrested a total of 11 men from Pakistan, China, Vietnam, Tunisia, Iraq, and Iran on suspicion of either immigration or visa offences.

Old Trafford fake bomb was 'signed off as recovered', Man Utd says

A private firm that staged a training exercise which caused a Premier League match at Old Trafford to be postponed after a fake bomb was found had "signed off the device as having been recovered", Manchester United said in a statement.

The stadium was evacuated after the match against Bournemouth was called off when a device was found in one of the toilet blocks yesterday.

The club's executive vice chairman Ed Woodward said: "The contractor had signed the device as having been recovered along with the 13 other devices at the end of the exercise. 

"That device could not have been detected by sniffer dogs on the routine matchday search of the 100 Club, as it contained no explosives and was used in an exercise training handlers not dogs."  

Permanent memorial to Alan Henning to open

A permanent memorial to Alan Henning will open his home town of Eccles tomorrow.

Mr Henning, 47, was beheaded by so-called Islamic State militants after he was kidnapped in Syria in December 2013.  

The circular garden at Eccles recreation ground will open at 18:00.

BMW driven 'erratically' before Snake Pass crash

Two people have died and five have been injured in a serious crash on the Snake Pass involving three cars.

The road was closed overnight due to the crash, which also caused two other cars to collide when they had to brake sharply.

The two men who were killed were driving a BMW and a white Honda Civic.

Police said the driver of the BMW was seen driving "erratically" before the crash, which happened at about 21:45 on Sunday.

A fake bomb being used to test sniffer dogs was left behind, leading to the postponement of Manchester United's match against Bournemouth on Sunday. 

Security Search Management and Solutions managing director Chris Reid said: "It is a very unfortunate situation and the consequences obviously were that a lot of people were inconvenienced." 

Speaking outside his home in Biggin Hill, south London, Mr Reid said he would like to say more about the "security situation" but he is waiting on Manchester United to contact him.

The structure was in a "raised" position at the top of the piers before it fell.

Security Search Management & Solutions Ltd was hired by specialist dog firm Deacons Canines to put on a training exercise for its sniffer dogs, the BBC understands.

The game between Manchester United and Bournemouth was called off and the 75,000-seater stadium evacuated after a fake device was discovered shortly before kick-off.

A controlled explosion was carried out on the item which police said was left in the stadium by accident. Calls have been made for an inquiry into the "fiasco".
