It will continue to be mainly cloudy for the rest of the afternoon across Greater Manchester, with showers - some of which will be slow-moving - potentially heavy and thundery.

North Manchester shoppers offered scans to beat lung disease

Shoppers are being offered scans in north Manchester in a bid to spot lung disease in smokers.

For the first time, mobile CT scanners will be located in shopping centre car parks in a pilot project by cancer charity Macmillan and NHS England.

Smokers and former smokers can receive a free lung health check which could lead to an on-the-spot scan.

Manchester's LGBT community to support Orlando nightclub victims

Manchester's LGBT community will show its support for the victims of the Orlando shootings later.

People will gather in Canal Street at 19:00 to "hold hands and stand together shoulder to shoulder with the people of Orlando," the organisers said.

A vigil will take place at 20:30 in Sackville Gardens with speakers including Lord Mayor Carl Austin and the Police and Crime Commissioner Tony Lloyd.

It will be followed, at 21:30, by Coronation Street actor Julie Hesmondhalgh and others introducing a performance by the Manchester Lesbian and Gay Chorus.

Thousands enjoy Parklife Festival at Heaton Park

More than 70,000 people attended each day of the Parklife Weekender Festival at Heaton Park over the weekend, police have said.

Supt Graeme Openshaw said the event went well though there were 38 arrests over the two days, including theft and possession of drugs with intent to supply.

A 26-year-old woman who was reported missing from the festival on Saturday was found safe and well on Sunday.

Witness appeal after Altrincham attack

A woman who was subject to an unprovoked attack in Altrincham last month has prompted a witness appeal.

Police said she sustained a broken hand and facial injuries after the attack at about 03:00 on 1 May outside the Canada Grill and Nick's Lounge on Railway Road.

Man jailed for murdering his partner

A man has been jailed for life for murdering his partner and told he must serve at least 16 years in prison before he is eligible for parole.

William Mack, 39, was convicted of murdering Leanne Wall at her home in Bury in February this year.

Ms Wall was the mother of his one-year-old daughter, Greater Manchester Police said.

A clean-up operation is under way after flash floods caused widespread disruption across parts of Greater Manchester and Cheshire.

Some people were forced to leave their homes during Saturday night's deluge in Poynton, while a landslide affected the train line between Stockport to Disley.

Firefighters used rescue boats to help move people to a temporary emergency centre.

Man charged with murder after Salford fatal stabbing

A man has been charged with murder following a fatal stabbing in Greater Manchester.

Jakub Gorski was found stabbed in the chest following reports a fight broke out in Hope Street, in Salford, at about 19:45 on Friday.

The 19-year-old was taken to Salford Royal hospital where he later died.

Piotr Olejarczyk, 28, of Knoll Street, Salford, has been charged with murder and is due to appear at Manchester and Salford Magistrates' Court later.

Mancunian Way closed for two days for repairs

A busy city road beset by problems after two sinkhole-like holes appeared is completely closed for two days before finally reopening.

Mancunian Way in Manchester has been partially closed since the end of last summer because of the holes.

The key commuter route is shut for a full inspection on Monday and Tuesday, for an inspection and further maintenance.

It is due to reopen in full at 06:00 on Wednesday.

Manchester bomb survivors say compensation claims ignored

Survivors of an IRA bomb blast in Manchester have said their compensation claims are being ignored because they do not live in Northern Ireland.

They are demanding a pension, for which Northern Irish victims of the Troubles could be eligible.

One person injured in the 1996 blast has called on the UK government to "support its victims".

The British government said it would "consider the position in relation to victims elsewhere in the UK".
