A man has been arrested on suspicion of making social media threats to North West MEP Sajjad Karim.

Mr Karim gave a statement to police on Friday following what he claimed were "direct threats" on Facebook.

A 55-year-old man was later arrested in Harrogate, North Yorkshire, and released on bail.

Bolton Coroner's Court has heard her family ask whether reduced staff at weekends made the hospital "unsafe".

When questioned about weekend staffing, the trust's Dr Sadasivam Loganathan agreed it was "a major concern".

More than 250 jobs are set to be lost at Greater Manchester Fire Service as part of plans to save about £15m over the next four years.

A man has been seriously injured in a fire and gas explosion at a house in Manchester.

Man hurt in gas blast suffers facial and hand injuries

A man taken from a house where a gas explosion took place this morning has been taken to hospital with injuries to his face and hands, police said.

A fire also broke out at the house in Abbey Hey Lane in Gorton, Manchester just after 10:00.

Greater Manchester Police said police and firefighters are investigating the cause of the explosion.

Man arrested over social media threats to North West MEP Sajjad Karim

A man has been arrested for making threats on social media to the North West Conservative MEP Sajjad Karim.

The MEP, a Remain supporter, reported the threats earlier this month. Police interviewed him on Friday following the attack on Jo Cox.

A 55-year-old man was later arrested in Harrogate by North Yorkshire Police. He has been bailed pending further investigations.

Man dies on Dubai to Manchester flight

A 71-year-old man has died on a flight from Dubai to Manchester, police have said.

Greater Manchester Police said there are no suspicious circumstances surrounding the death of the man, who was taken off the plane at the airport earlier.

The coroner has been informed.

Man hurt as house collapses in gas blast

One man was injured after a gas explosion caused a fire and a house to collapse in Manchester.

Fire crews sent for a dangerous buildings inspector following the blast on Abbey Hey Lane, Manchester, at 10:07.

Four fire engines, an aerial appliance and a number of specialist rescue units are on the scene, a Greater Manchester Fire Service spokesman said.

Firefighters have contained the fire to the ground floor of the house.

Two bailed over ecstasy girls' arrest

A 22-year-old man and a 21-year-old woman arrested after three 12-year-old girls were hospitalised after taking ecstasy have been released on bail.

The girls, who were found around Salford Precinct on Saturday night, are described as "stable" in hospital.

The man and woman, who were arrested on suspicion of being in possession of a controlled substance, were bailed until 15 July, said a Greater Manchester Police spokesman.
