  4. Man seriously hurt after being hit by truck

    A man has been taken to hospital with serious injuries after being hit by a truck in Manchester city centre.

    The man, in his 40s, was struck just after 09:00 this morning on New York Street.

    Emergency services remain at the scene.

  5. Blackpool FC: EFL to work with receivers to see out season

    The English Football League say they will work with the newly-appointed receivers of Blackpool to ensure the club fulfil their fixtures this season.

    David Rubin & Partners are due to be confirmed as receivers of the League One side this week.

    Blackpool were put into receivership by the High Court last week, forcing owner Owen Oyston to pay ex-director Valeri Belokon the £25m he is owed.

    The EFL must also decide whether to dock the Tangerines 12 points.

  6. Shed radio DJ visits 'pirate radio ship'

    A shed-based DJ, whose interest in radio was sparked by pirate station Radio Caroline, has had his "dream come true" by visiting the ship it broadcasts from.

    Deke Duncan, 73, from Stockport, was given his own one-hour special on BBC local radio last year after broadcasting to just his wife for more than 40 years.

    The station took him to the ship off the coast of Essex at the weekend.

    "This is the climax of my life," he said during the visit.

  7. Derek Hatton rejoins Labour after 34 years

    Derek Hatton has been readmitted to the Labour Party, 34 years after he was expelled by then-leader Neil Kinnock.

    The 71-year-old former deputy leader of Liverpool City Council was kicked out for belonging to Militant Tendency.

    He revealed in September that he had applied to rejoin after being inspired by Jeremy Corbyn's leadership.

    Mr Hatton told the BBC he had rejoined and "it's good to be back", insisting he had "stayed absolutely solid for the Labour Party" for 34 years.

  8. Blackpool GP struck off for faking clinical trial data

    A Blackpool GP has been struck off for faking clinical trials and claiming a patient was an ex-smoker with a 20-a-day habit when he had never smoked at all.

    The General Medical Council (GMC) tribunal also heard Jerome Kerrane faked records and pocketed cash from the tests.

    Mr Kerrane showed "persistent, sustained and deliberate dishonesty", the tribunal panel ruled.

    The GP did not attend the hearing and was not represented.

  9. Teen in coma wakes up with baby daughter

    A teenager who went into a coma after going to bed with a headache woke up four days later to discover she had given birth to a surprise baby girl.

    Ebony Stevenson, 18, from Oldham, had no idea she was pregnant when she went to bed feeling unwell.

    She was taken to hospital after suffering a series of seizures where medics discovered she was expecting.

    The sports physiotherapy student awoke on 6 December having had a 7lbs 10oz baby girl.
