    After performing on the BBC's The Choir: Sing While You Work and then singing for firefighters at Ground Zero in New York, the Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service's choir are making a charity recording of Bruce Springsteen's - The Rising.

    Here they are during rehearsals and it's sounding sounding pretty good...

  5. Murray quits TalkSport after buy-out

    Broadcaster Colin Murray announces on Twitter he is to quit his morning radio show on TalkSport, following its parent company's buy-out by News Corp.

    The presenter said his position would be made "unsustainable" by the "future working relationship" between TalkSport and The Sun, which News Corp also owns.

    Murray, a Liverpool FC supporter, ended his message with #JFT96, a reference to the 96 Hillsborough victims.

  7. Appeal to find WW2 airman's family for rededication service

    The family of a 19-year-old World War Two airman from Liverpool who was shot down in his RAF Lancaster bomber is being sought for a rededication service.

    Sgt Arthur Pulman, grew up in Dane Street, Walton, and was killed in Germany in 1944. His grave site has finally been identified.

    He was the tail gunner on board Lancaster EE173, part of 207 Squadron Royal Air Force, when it took off from RAF Spilsby, Lincolnshire, on 30 January 72 years ago for a raid on Berlin.

    His grave at Rheinberg War Cemetery will be rededicated in September and family members are being asked to contact the Ministry of Defence.

  12. Passenger delays caused by man on Wirral railway bridge

    Rail passengers in Wirral have been delayed for an hour after a man was seen on a bridge over the railway line.

    Officers were called to Birkenhead Park Station just before midday after receiving reports of the man on the Cavendish Street bridge. 

    A 24-year-old man has been detained after being talked down by emergency services.

    Merseyrail say disruption on the Wirral Line will continue for at least the next hour.

  14. Liverpool Crown Court evacuated after fire alarm

    Liverpool Crown Court was evacuated after a fire alarm went off.

    Staff readmitted to Liverpool Crown Court

    Just after 14:30 people were told to leave the court and a sign reading: "Emergency evacuation in progress, keep clear" was hung on the door.

    After about 15 minutes staff were readmitted to the building in Derby Square following the false alarm.

  15. Rugby League: Widnes sign Leigh's Armstrong for 2017

    Widnes Vikings sign centre Tom Armstrong from Championship leaders Leigh Centurions for the 2017 season.

    Armstrong, 26, has agreed a two-year deal with the Vikings.

    He began his career at St Helens and scored 16 tries in 29 games before stepping down from full-time rugby league in 2011 to complete a Masters in petroleum engineering.

    During his studies, he played for Swinton and then Sheffield Eagles before joining Leigh in 2014.

    Liverpool Riverside MP Louise Ellman has received an honorary fellowship from John Moores University for "outstanding contribution to politics and support of the constituents of Liverpool".

  18. Murder accused 'never violent towards anybody', partner tells court

    The partner of a woman accused of murdering her love rival has told a court how he had never seen her being violent towards anyone.

    Sadie Hartley, 60, (pictured) was stunned with a cattle prod and stabbed in her home in Helmshore, Rossendale, in January.

    Sarah Williams, 35, and Katrina Walsh, 56, both from Chester, deny murdering the mother-of-two.

    Ms Williams partner David Hardwick told Preston Crown Court how he asked police if they had arrested the right Sarah Williams, adding: "I've never seen her physically violent towards anyone."

    The prosecution claims Ms Williams carried out the killing after becoming obsessed with Ms Hartley's partner, Ian Johnston.
