  1. Football: New one-year deal for Crewe defender

    Defender Perry Ng has signed a new deal with Crewe Alexandra.

    The club says the 21-year-old has put pen to paper on a 12-month deal which has the option of another year, depending on appearances.

    Ng has made 26 appearances for the Alex in all competitions and played in both defence and midfield last season.

  2. Election 2017: The Cheshire town with fewer than 100 voters unregistered

    There's a place in Cheshire where fewer than 100 of the adult population are not registered voters.

    In Congleton, out of a total of 76,548 adults, 76,465 are registered to vote.

    The BBC England Data Unit combined the latest Office for National Statistics data for December 2016, showing the number of registered voters per constituency, with the official population estimates.

    They also found some areas of the country where more than a third of people in their constituency are not registered.

    The deadline to register in time for the UK general election is 23:59 today.

  3. Man charged over Blackburn assault

    Three men have been injured in an assault in Blackburn.

    The men were found with a number of injuries in Darwen Street about 04:25 on Saturday.

    A 28-year-old man has been charged with assault, attempted assault and affray.

    A 22-year-old man from Blackburn was arrested on suspicion of affray and is in police custody.

    Anyone with any information is asked to contact police.

  4. UK firm designs 'world's most affordable solar lamp'

    A UK design consultancy has teamed up with a giant Chinese manufacturer to produce what they say is the world's most affordable solar lamp.

    Manchester-based firm Inventid designed the SM100 solar light, which retails for $5 (£3.85) in African countries.

    It was developed in collaboration with China's Yingli and charity Solar Aid.

    The hand-sized lamp runs for eight hours when fully charged. As well as a stand, it has strap slots so it can be used as a head torch or tied to a bike.

  6. Replica F-35 aircraft installed at BAE Systems' site

    A full-scale replica of a fifth generation F-35 Lightning II aircraft has been installed at the entrance of a BAE Systems' site.

    The model has been placed alongside the English Electric Lightning aircraft to showcase the Samlesbury site’s heritage in developing and manufacturing world-class aircraft.

    The replica has been built from a scanned digital model.

  7. Inquest date for missing tourist after remains found

    An inquest into the death of a man who went missing in 2005 on holiday will open this Friday.

    Earlier this year, human remains found in a well on a Greek island were confirmed by police to be Steven Cook, 20, from Sandbach, Cheshire.

    He was last seen outside a pub in Malia, Crete, asking for directions.

    An inquest into his death will be opened at Warrington Coroner's Court on Friday afternoon.

  10. Parascender critical after airfield crash

    A parascender has suffered life-threatening injuries after crashing at an airfield.

    The 55-year-old man, who is a member of the Bollington Parascenders, was injured landing at City Airport in Barton, Salford, about 08:00 yesterday.

    The British Hang Gliding and Paragliding Association are supporting Greater Manchester Police in its investigation.

    Sgt Lee Westhead said: "I am particularly keen to speak to individuals with photographs or videos of the incident or the aftermath."

    Parascending is a recreational sport where a person attached to a parachute is towed behind a vehicle before being released.
