'Positive' business expo 'maintains relationship' between Corby businesses

I've been to the first Corby Business Expo today, with 20 businesses taking part.

I spoke to Satty Nanoer, from Rockingham Motor Speedway, who told me it was important to "maintain the relationship between the businesses in Corby".

She told me they were there to "build profile and showing businesses we are more than just a racing circuit".

Organiser Shelia Smith told me she wanted a "positive event" following recent job losses in the area and the uncertainty of Tata Steel.

Northamptonshire car 'not the fastest', but team confident

The all-British team Strakka Racing are based at Whittlebury and are taking part in the Le Mans 24-hour race.

The team's principal, Dan Walmsley, is confidence ahead of the event.

A motorsport team from Northamptonshire will be the only all-British one at this weekend's Le Mans 24-hour race.

Strakka Racing are based at Whittlebury, near Silverstone.

The team will be taking 18 people to France and has been preparing for the race for six months.

Colleagues' 'thoughts and prayers' with MP in critical condition after shooting

Jo Cox, the Labour MP for Batley and Spen, is in a critical condition in hospital after being shot and stabbed during an attack near Leeds.

Vote Leave and Remain have suspended campaigning in the EU referendum in light of the attack.

Tresham College makes six redundancies

Six redundancies among the teaching staff have been made at Tresham College, which is based in Kettering, Corby and Wellingborough. It follows a consultation over a restructuring.

A spokeswoman for Tresham says six posts have been made redundant from the A-Level staff and a further two people from the same department have been re-deployed to alternative roles within the college.

Teenager Ellie Robinson will be competing in the S6 freestyle in Rio after making her major debut for Great Britain at the 2016 IPC Swimming European Championships.

She won three bronze and one silver medal in her first international meet.

First he was given a wildcard for Wimbledon and now he's training with Andy Murray (sat down in white) at Queen's.

Andy Murray takes on fellow Brit Aljaz Bedene at the tournament today, while Wimbledon starts on 27 June.

Man punched and forced into car in Northampton town centre

A man was snatched off a street in Northampton town centre, bundled into a car and driven off on Tuesday evening.

The victim, a 27-year-old man, was grabbed by two men outside McDonalds in the Drapery, between 18.45 and 19:00.


He was punched in the face and forced into a vehicle, believed to be a VW Passat.

The victim was then driven to the Kings Heath area and further assaulted by two or three men.

Police have posted descriptions of the men on their website and have appealed for witness

Weather warning of rain for Northamptonshire

The Met Office has issued a "yellow" weather warning for rain for Northamptonshire for both today and tomorrow.

The warning for today is in place until 22:00. There could be flooding and disruption to travel where downpours occur.

There is a similar warning in place for tomorrow between 10:00 and 22:00.

Cobblers lose both wingers following League Two title win

Now Ricky Holmes has left for Charlton, Northampton Town have lost both of their wingers from their League Two championship-winning side, after Nicky Adams joined Carlisle United last month.

It means quite a few goals and assists have left the side.

Northampton Town chairman Kelvin Thomas said once winger Ricky Holmes handed in a transfer request it was clear they couldn't persuade him to stay at the club, and they set about getting the "best deal possible".

Thomas said Holmes, who joins Charlton for an undisclosed fee, "did fantastically" for the Cobblers and that "he wasn't desperate to leave" and "loved his time at Northampton".

However, the chairman said the player, who turns 29 this week, told him that "at his age and stage of career, the financial offer available to him and the location of the club in relation to his family home, all added together, were big deciding factors."

Northampton Town has confirmed midfielder Ricky Holmes has joinedCharlton Athletic for an undisclosed fee.

Holmes joined the Cobblers from Portsmouth at the start of January 2015 and made 43 starts and 10 substitute appearances in his time at Sixfields.

He scored 11 goals in Northampton's League Two title-winning season, and was nominated for the League Two player of the year.

Northamptonshire's Dylan Fletcher will be competing in the 49er sailing in Rio. This particular class of sailing has been in the Olympics ever since its debut in 2000 at Sydney.

The boat is a "two-handed skiff-type high-performance sailing dinghy". The name comes from the hull length of 4.99 metres.

Another local name you can keep an eye on when the Rio Games begin in 50 days time is GB sailor Dylan Fletcher.

He found out last month he and his partner Alain Sign will compete for Britain in the 49er class. The 28-year-old learned to sail at Pitsford and now lives in north Northamptonshire near Market Harborough.

At the Rio 2016 Test Event in August 2014, the pair finished third and at the Sailing World Cup in Weymouth and Portland earlier this month they came second.

The BBC has learned it is Charlton Athletic which has had its bids rejected for Northampton Town winger Ricky Holmes.

The winger, who turns 29 on Sunday, handed in a transfer request at the club yesterday.

Cobblers' manager Rob Page wouldn't confirm whether it Charlton's interest that sparked this request, but said negotiations are ongoing between Northampton Town and another club.

Three charged with murder appear in court

I've just been to Northampton Magistrates' Court where three people faced murder charges over the death of David Miller, who was found stabbed at his home on Patterdale Walk in the town on Tuesday.


Zena Kane, 35, Ian Cuthbertson, 49, and 37-year-old Michael Hallett – all homeless – have been remanded in custody and are set to appear at the crown court tomorrow.

Incredible to think with all the football fever going on we're now just 50 days away from the start of the Rio Olympic and Paralympic Games.

A year ago we announced our Five to Follow, and since we've been following the highs and lows of five hopefuls from the east of England as they sought qualification and prepared for the challenges of Brazil.

Unfortunately it's been the latter for one of our prospects - Northampton boxer Chantelle Cameron - who was eliminated at the Women's World Championships in Kazakhstan last month, meaning she won't compete in this year's games.

Businesses are gathering in Corby today for a special expo event.

It's at the Holiday Inn hotel in the town and starts at midday.

It'll feature 18 businesses including big names such as the Core Theatre at the Corby Cube and Rockingham Motor Speedway.

I'm heading there, so there will be more on this through the day.

Two others remain in custody and one released on bail following fatal stabbing

As well as the three people charged with David Miller's murder, a 30-year-old man from Northampton, arrested on Tuesday on suspicion of murder, remains in police custody.


A 19-year-old man arrested yesterday on suspicion of assisting an offender is still in custody.

A 27-year-old woman also arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender has been released on police bail.

Northamptonshire Police say they are still keen to speak to people who may have seen David Miller sometime between Saturday, 11 June and Monday, 13 June.

Northamptonshire Police have charged two men and one woman with the murder of 56-year-old David Miller.

He was found stabbed to death at his home in Patterdale Walk, in the Boothville area of Northampton, on Tuesday.
