  2. Overnight weather: Misty in places with the chance of some light rain

    Julie Reinger

    BBC Look East weather

There will be thicker cloud and outbreaks of light rain and drizzle spreading eastwards through this evening and overnight.

It'll turn misty in places, with light south to south-westerly winds.

Temperatures under clear skies initially dropping to about 9C (48F), but by the end of the night everywhere will have risen back into double figures.

    Overnight weather map

A grey and mild start to Saturday, with some patchy mist, rain and drizzle.

As the day goes on, drier and brighter conditions should gradually spread northwards.

Some northern parts of the region may hold on to some very patchy rain until late afternoon.

Temperatures will range from 15C (59F), where we keep the cloud, to 19C (66F) in the best of any sunshine.

  3. Northamptonshire Police launches new policing model

    Sam Read

    BBC Radio Northampton politics reporter

Today I'm at Northamptonshire Police's shiny new £21m building near Kettering, where the force is launching a new way of working.

But before we go into that, here's what the new custody suite looks like.

    Firstly, here's where you check-in...

Chief Constable Simon Edens says this new "policing model" is based on "thorough research and in-depth analysis of the demand for our services".

    So what does that mean?

More resources to investigate crime and protect the most vulnerable, says the force. However - this doesn't mean more officers, just them being deployed differently.

The new model also means separate teams - so neighbourhood officers will concentrate on community relations, while another team responds to 999 calls and a third team investigates crime.

There'll also be a team dedicated to tackling cyber crime, as well as a new domestic abuse prevention and investigation unit.

The changes are being made without extra funding - instead Northamptonshire Police is using its annual budget of nearly £116m differently.

Police and crime commissioner Stephen Mold says he believes the changes will improve the service the public receives.

  4. Northants defeat Notts in County Championship

That was rounded off quickly, wasn't it...

    View more on twitter

Resuming on 107-3, Notts have been bowled out for just 189.

Gleeson did much of the damage, which means Northants' promotion hopes are still alive. They face Leicestershire next week.

Notts meanwhile need a maximum of 12 points to be promoted in their last game of the season against Sussex.

  5. Patel & Read have a big task for Notts

    Northants 194 & 270 v Notts 151 & 166-7 (60.2 overs)

    Alex Winter

    BBC Radio Northampton sport

What a fabulous morning for the final day's play at Wantage Road this season. Perfect weather and a vital fixture perfectly poised.

But it's Northamptonshire who have seized control of it, taking four wickets for 33 runs. Rory Kleinveldt extended his match haul to 13 wickets with two strikes around 30 minutes into play - and now has 50 Championship wickets for the season.

And Ben Sanderson finally struck after a luckless time so far in the game, with the huge wicket of Riki Wessels - so often Northants' nemesis - for just 4.

Samit Patel and Chris Read now have a big task to try and get Notts back into the game but it's still up for grabs here.

  6. Strictly: 'Father Richard is just so normal'

    Katy Lewis

    BBC Local Live

The village of Finedon is getting ready to cheer on its vicar in BBC One's Strictly Come Dancing this weekend.

Rev Richard Coles and Dianne Buswell

Broadcaster, writer and former pop star Richard Coles is also the vicar of St Mary's Church and is one of 15 celebrities taking to the dance floor on Saturday night - with partner Dianne Buswell.

Villager Joan Cale said there's much excitement around.

"It's quite a different thing for Finedon to be facing and I think having seen the dance in church on Sunday, some people might have been a bit surprised to watch something like that, but everybody really enjoyed it," she said.

"It was nice for us to be the first audience to see it."

Meanwhile, Louise Lawrence said she thinks it will put the village on the map.

"Finedon really needs this," she said.

"It's just brilliant having him around and he's just so normal to us.

"My kids don't know him as anything more than Father Richard, so for them to see him on the telly is just fantastic."

  7. Rev Richard Coles looks forward to Strictly

    Katy Lewis

    BBC Local Live

So, it's finally here - the first live show of the latest Strictly Come Dancing series will be on our screens this Saturday night.

Fifteen celebrities and their professional dancing partners will take to the floor on the BBC One show - and the vicar of St Mary's Church in Finedon will be one of them.

The Reverend Richard Coles and Dianne Buswell

Rev Richard Coles - priest, broadcaster and former pop star - will be performing a Cha Cha Cha with partner Dianne Buswell to There Must Be An Angel by Eurythmics.

He said: "When they offered it [Strictly] to me I thought about it very carefully for about 1.2 seconds and then resolved that after reflection, yes I would like to do it.

"Of course I'd love to be part of Strictly - it ticks so many of my boxes and I've always enjoyed the show, so to be part of it is very exciting."

  8. Cricket: Can Notts seal promotion?

    BBC Sport

It's getting to the business end of the cricket season now, and Nottinghamshire fans will hope their side can get over the line and ensure promotion from the County Championship Division Two today.

They play at Northamptonshire knowing that a draw will be enough, and as things stand they need 207 more runs to win the match outright.

Notts will have to beware of Rory Kleinveldt, who's taken 11-88 so far in this match.
