Man bailed after woman found critically injured

A 30-year-old man, who was arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm after a woman was found with serious injuries, has been released on bail, police have said.

The 40-year-old woman remains in a critical condition but the cause of her injuries is not yet known.

She was found at a property in Thrumpton, near Retford, on Friday and taken to hospital where she remains in a critical condition..

Burglar bitten by dog and unmasked

While the other two burglars ran to a getaway car, Turley tripped, fell and was left behind.  

He was then bitten by the family's dog and had his balaclava removed before he managed to run away.

Police tracked him down to a caravan park in Bulwell, where he was found in a shower block.

Det Con Steven Fenyn said: “This was obviously a terrifying ordeal for the family involved in this incident who had to endure masked men with weapons forcing their way into their home."

Hammer burglar jailed for 10 years

A burglar who threatened a family with a hammer has been jailed for 10 years.

Brendan Turley, 30, broke into a house in Bilborough with two other men in October 2015, shouting "We want the money", police said.

One of the men shouted "I will take your head off" to the family.

Turley changed his plea to guilty on the first day of his trial at Nottingham Crown Court today.

Golf: Westwood at Open

Lee Westwood will make his 22nd consecutive appearance at the Open when he tees off at Royal Troon on Thursday.

In Monday morning's draw, the 43-year-old Nottinghamshire golfer was paired with two former Open champions, Phil Mickelson, the 2013 winner, and the twice victorious Ernie Els (2002 and 2012).

The three ball will tee off in the 145th Open Championship at 13:26 BST, with an 08:25 BST time booked in for Friday's second round.

Westwood has a good record at the Ayrshire coast course, having played it twice before, tying for 10th in 1997, before finishing fourth in 2004.

Some homes to be left without water all night

Rushcliffe Borough Council said a small number of households will be left without water overnight.

Severn Trent said it would contact them to arrange alternative water supplies.

Plumtree: 2,000 people still without water supply

Severn Trent has revealed about 4,000 people have been affected by the burst water main in Plumtree today.

Around half of them have had their water supply restored now.

The remaining 2,000 people should have theirs back on by this evening, the firm said.

Man in court over 1992 rape

A man has appeared in court charged with the rape and kidnap of a woman in Arnold in 1992.

Christopher Robert Scott, of Heathfield, appeared at Nottingham Magistrates' Court today and has been bailed to appear at the city's crown court on 8 August.

The 63-year-old was charged with two counts of rape and one count of kidnap.

Basford fire: Teens on bail

In case you missed it over the weekend - the two teenagers were arrested on suspicion of starting a huge fire in Basford on Friday have been released on bail.

The fire at an outdoor clothing factory caused plumes of smoke to blow across Nottingham - we were sent dozens of pictures and videos of the dramatic scene.

Some 55 people were evacuated from their homes and could not return until Saturday.

The boys aged 16 and 17 were arrested on Friday on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life.

Petition maker 'disgusted' with fine

Dave Hedley's fine was cancelled but he set up the petition because he wanted to stop parents in similar situations being fined.

"We managed to get away for a surprise break the week after the Easter holidays," he said. 

"We had no way of informing the school apart from via email but it was the one week we had in between my wife's operations and her radiotherapy starting."

Power supply restored in Underwood

Western Power Distribution UK has said electricity is back on for 1,316 homes in the NG16 area, including the village of Underwood.

Supplies were off for 18 minutes, a spokeswoman said.

It was caused by a problem with overhead cables.

Abbie Harper, at Children First nursery on Station Road, said her water is running fine, which is lucky as she has about 60 kids to look after today.

"They love it - they've been looking at it and talking about it," she said.

Lloyd Burnham, who owns a car showroom near the burst main in Plumtree, says he's concerned about how it'll affect his business.

"Quite surprised. I was here until 4:30 last night and there was no sign of any problem," he said.

"Nobody's going to be able to get to us to look at cars."

Lenton fire: 50 students asked to leave

Here's another picture of the derelict building in Lenton where a fire broke out yesterday evening.

Fire crews from Central fire station, Stockhill and Highfields used a jet of water to protect the student accommodation at the back of the Jubilee Campus of the University of Nottingham.

Around 50 students were asked to leave the block as a precaution in case the fire spread. 

Thankfully it didn't and the fire was fully out by 20:30.
