Mysterious hacker targets Mansfield radio station

Liam Barnes

BBC News Online

Nobody tends to bat an eyelid when a novelty song from the past comes on the radio, but listeners to Mansfield 103.2 have been plagued by the repeated return of a rather blue ditty from the 1970s.

A hijacker took to the airwaves, playing The Winker's Song (Misprint) by the infamous Ivor Biggun, pictured, with managing director Tony Delahunty saying it's popped up about eight times in the last month.

Ivor Biggun

It made its latest showing on a live Sunday afternoon broadcast.

A local listener is believed to be behind the prank, and bosses at the station now have their hands full trying to work out how to stop the hack coming back.

Some people have told me that their children have started humming the song in the car. We have had calls from people who have found it hilarious, while some have raised their concerns, including our competitors, and a lot of people in the industry are aghast at how difficult it is to stop these people."
