  9. Rescue dog makes unlikely best friend

    Nick Smith

    BBC News Online

A dog rescued from the "brink of death" has found a new loving family and an unlikely best friend in a lizard named George, the RSPCA has said.

    Skye and George

Staff at Woodside Animal Centre in Leicester said she was the skinniest animal they had ever seen when she arrived, weighing just a third of what a healthy animal should.

The staffie named Skye was adopted by Hayley Wessier and her family in April 2015.

Mrs Wessier said: "She was licking us and loved my husband’s kids.

"Even he was in love right away and he’s not a dog person! We took her for a walk and the rest is history."

She's definitely one pampered pooch, with Hayley saying Skye refuses to eat steak unless its medium-rare and one of her favourite summer activities is sunbathing with George, the family's pet skink.

  14. Murdered Jayden 'not linked to gangs'

    Heather Burman

    Journalist, BBC News Online

The family of teenager Jayden Moodie say he was not linked to gangs and was "murdered in cold blood".

Jayden Moodie, 14, was stabbed to death by attackers who knocked him off a moped in London on Tuesday in what police believe was a targeted attack.

He had moved from Nottingham to London with his mum six months ago for a "new start".

No arrests have been made over Jayden's death, the Met Police has said.

    Jayden Moodie

A family friend said in a statement: "It has been very distressing that the majority of reports had mentioned Jayden being part of London gangs.

The teenager is a former pupil of the Redhill Academy.
