  4. Damning report on Leicestershire mental health services

    Amy Orton

    Local Democracy Reporter

A culture of bullying, fire risks at the Bradgate Unit, and children with autism waiting up to two years for treatment are just some of the issues that Leicestershire's mental health services need to address, according to a watchdog report.

It comes after inspectors from the Care Quality Commission (CQC) visited five services run by Leicestershire Partnership NHS Trust in November and December last year, and rated it as "requires improvement".

Staff have however been praised for their care, which was the only area of the service rated good.

Dr Peter Miller, chief executive of the Local Partnership Trust, who announced his retirement earlier this month, apologised and said: "The CQC report shows that we still have work to do to get the fundamentals right, first time, every time, and that we need to increase the pace of improvement."

    David Pittam

    BBC News Online

According to Friends of the Earth, the Kingsway stretch of the A38 in Derby has the highest levels of nitrogen dioxide in the region.

    Cars on a busy road

They're now calling on the government to step up, and stop relying on cash-strapped local councils.

Richard Dyer, from the organisation, said: "We need to vastly improve public transport and facilities for walking and cycling because that's a real alternative for shorter journeys."

The Derby North MP Chris Williamson has been filmed saying the Labour party has been "too apologetic" over anti-Semitism.

The footage, which shows the Labour MP - a close ally of Jeremy Corbyn - speaking at an event in Sheffield is understood to have been recorded last week after eight Labour MPs quit the party over Brexit and anti-Semitism.
