  4. Family sentenced for modern slavery offences

    Four members of the same family have been sentenced for modern slavery offences.

    Nottingham Crown Court heard the group brought their vulnerable 51-year-old victim from Poland in 2017 with a promise of a better life.

    But once here, he was forced to hand over his documents and earnings from a job washing cars.

    The man lived with the family in Pullman Road, Sneinton and was given two meals a day plus a £4 bus fare and had no clothing except the ones he went to work in.

    Modern slavery family

    Nottinghamshire Police said they became aware of the man's situation in August last year when he attempted to take his own life.

    The family were found guilty at a previous hearing of forced labour and human trafficking.

    • Anna Janczy, 56, was handed an 18-month sentence suspended for two years.
    • Her son Jan Burianski, 32, was jailed for four years.
    • Janczy's daughter-in-law, Agnieska Burianska, 32, was jailed for two years suspended for two years.
    • Janczy's grandson, 19-year-old Roman Pawlowski was also jailed for two years.
  5. Football: Bolton players refuse to play Forest match

    Bolton Wanderers players have said they will not play their final two Championship fixtures of the season unless they receive their unpaid wages - which includes their away fixture against Nottingham Forest next Sunday.

    The squad have still not been paid their March wages and said in a statement the situation is "creating mental, emotional and financial burdens for people through no fault of their own".

  6. Train delays due to fault

    East Midlands Trains said engineers are now on site to fix a broken train at Mansfield Woodhouse and the line is expected to fully re-open in the next two hours.

    The fault is disrupting train services on the Nottingham to Worksop route.

  7. Ducks blamed for three-vehicle crash

    Derbyshire Police say a crash on the A50 this afternoon was caused by a motorists swerving to avoid a family of ducks on the carriageway.
