  5. Watch: Shropshire MP wants quick EU exit

    The North Shropshire MP says Britain needs to leave the EU as quickly as possible and he's worried about a lengthy transition period.

    Owen Paterson, a leading euro-sceptic, has been reacting to the prime minister's Brexit speech this afternoon, in which she proposed extending Britain's close links to the EU for a "transitional period" beyond Brexit.

    Theresa May also made clear the UK was willing to meet its financial obligations before leaving the EU and moved to reassure EU citizens living in the UK of their future rights.

  6. Football: Shrewsbury chief exec pleased with support from fans

    The Shrewsbury Town chief executive says he's been pleased with match attendances in recent weeks.

    There were 6,929 fans for the match against Wigan and 5,029 for the Tuesday night fixture against Southend. Brian Caldwell says he's expecting another big crowd for Blackburn on Saturday.

  7. Ninety-year-old collage artist to sell work for charity

    A 90-year-old Shrewsbury collage artist is aiming to raise money for Age UK by selling his artwork.

    Forty pieces by Malcolm Tillis are going on sale from next week.

    Malcolm says he has no plans to give up his art, but isn't expecting to become rich from it - he says he just wants to clear his cupboards, which are stacked full with his works.

  10. Harper Adams climbs university rankings in Times guide

    Harper Adams University near Newport has achieved the highest place ever given to a "modern university" in the Times' Good University Guide.

    It's been ranked the 33rd best university in the country, with its graduate employment rates and student satisfaction earning particular praise.

    Last year it was ranked 36th.

    Harper Adams was ranked number one in the Times Higher Education Student Experience Survey in March and in April it won the Whatuni University of the Year for the second year running.

    "Modern universities" is a term used for those formed since 1992.

  12. Chilli festival returns this weekend

    Shropshire's annual chilli festival returns this weekend, with demonstrations by chefs, food to sample and the chilli-eating contest.

    It's the sixth year the event has been held at the Dorothy Clive garden centre, near Woore.

  13. Football: TNS face top-of-the-table Llandudno

    It's third versus first in the Welsh Premier tonight, as The New Saints host Llandudno at Park Hall.

    The visitors lead the table by three points and have yet to lose a game this season, winning four and drawing one.

  16. MP calls for veterans charity to keep Newport residential centre open

    The Wrekin MP says veterans charity Combat Stress must keep its residential centre in Newport open.

    It's planning to close the unit and focus more on giving people care in their own homes, saying it's making the move because of increasing demand for its services.
