It is listed as an "asset of community value" as it is the only pub in the village and the council served the couple with an enforcement notice over the "unauthorised change of use from public house to a residential dwelling" on 2 March this year.

The Shropshire hospitals have been struggling to attract enough staff to work in their A&E departments and came close to closing the Telford unit overnight this month, for safety reasons.

The court battle over whether Shropshire's fire service should be controlled by the West Mercia Police and Crime Commissioner won't be resolved until March at the soonest, a meeting has been told.

The Shropshire fire authority is fighting the move, which was approved by the Home Secretary earlier this year, and has asked for a judicial review.

    Fire service HQ

A report to the fire authority this week blamed the delay on the Home Office not getting its evidence together.

  17. Recycling warning after starving hedgehog trapped

A hedgehog has been rescued after getting trapped in a tin can that was left out for recycling in south Shropshire.

The British Hedgehog Preservation Society said a woman from Hopton Castle discovered it when she put her bins out for collection and her partner was able to carefully cut it free.

    Hedgehog and tin can

The hedgehog, which was freezing cold and desperate for food, is being nursed back to health, because it is too small to hibernate successfully.

The society is asking people to crush their cans before binning them, to stop other animals becoming trapped while looking for food.
