  2. Man sets record for Land's End to John O'Groats flight

    A man's been officially credited by Guinness World Records with the fastest journey across the length of Britain by powered paraglider.

    In July, estate agent James Du Pavey, from Market Drayton in Shropshire, set off from Land's End and completed the charity bid in John O'Groats just over a day and a half later.

    He said he raised £10,000 for the Donna Louise Children's Hospice in Stoke-on-Trent.

    However, Mr Du Pavey did admit at the time his journey wasn't without a few hitches as he crash-landed in a garden, on a cricket pitch and on a police dog training field.

  5. Alert issued over ice slip hazard

    People in parts of Herefordshire, Shropshire and Staffordshire are being warned of slippery conditions due to ice this evening and overnight.

    The Met Office has put out a yellow weather alert which runs from 19:00 until 10:00 on Tuesday.

  10. Burning rubbish causes a headache for landowner

    The country landowners organisation, the CLA, has tweeted this photo of burning fly-tipped waste, found at a farm at Wrockwardine in Shropshire.

    It said the landowner had to clean it up, but struggled at first because the local tip had a ban on people bringing in rubbish in a horse box.

    The landowner had to unload the horse box and transfer the rubbish to a pickup instead, the CLA said.
