  4. Police appeal to community over missing Sheffield man

    Police officers in Sheffield are stepping up their search for a missing man who hasn't been seen for a week.

    Minod Monger, 23, was last seen on Remington Road last Monday.

    Police say his family is extremely worried for his welfare, with officers carrying out inquiries in the Parson Cross and Ecclesfield areas of Sheffield.

    Speaking at a press conference last week, Ch Insp Helen Lewis appealed for people in West Yorkshire, South Yorkshire and Derbyshire to be on the lookout for Minod as he is a keen walker.

    Anybody who has seen him is being asked to call 999 and not approach him.

  5. Paralympian calls on government improvements for cycling

    More needs to be done to make cycling and walking safer, according to South Yorkshire's Active Travel Commissioner Dame Sarah Storey.

    Britain's most successful female Paralympian has written to the Transport Secretary Chris Grayling to warn public money will continue being wasted unless new measures are adopted.

    Last month, a survey found that seven out of 10 cyclists did not believe conditions on Britain's roads had improved in the past five years.

  6. Concern for missing Doncaster man

    Police officers in Doncaster are trying to find a man who went missing earlier this morning while wearing only his underpants.

    Carl Stokes was last seen at about 1:10 in woodland near to Stripe Road, Rossington, wearing white boxer shorts.

    The 57-year-old is described as white with dark brown hair. He may also have a blue jumper with the Rossington Main Football Club logo on.

    Firefighters from South Yorkshire have been helping clear flood water following heavy rain in Lincolnshire last week.

    Nearly 600 homes have been evacuated in Wainfleet after two months' worth of rain fell in just two days causing a nearby river to burst its banks.

  8. Driver 'four times over the limit' in M1 crash

    A driver who "misjudged" a manoeuvre on the M1 over the weekend was four times over the legal drink-drive limit, police say.

    The black BMW 1 series crashed near Barnsley at about 18:45 on Saturday evening.

    The driver provided a roadside breath sample of 140, which is four times over the legal limit of 35 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath.

    South Yorkshire Police's Operational Support team said they hoped the courts "impose a lengthy driving ban along with imprisonment", following the crash.

  10. Praise for wildflower verges in South Yorkshire

    Roadside verges awash with wildflowers in Rotherham have been singled out for praise by the British Bee Keepers Association.

    More than eight miles of grass verges have been planted with both native and non-native flowers and the association say the scheme, which has saved the council £25,000 on grass mowing and maintenance, is a real boost for bees and other pollinators.

    Sheffield-based Pictorial Meadows planted the verges a few years ago and have also been involved in projects transforming Sheffield's streets as part of a "grey to green" scheme in the city centre.

  11. Yorkshire boxer thanks support after retaining world title

    Leeds boxer Josh Warrington has thanked his supporters following his victory over Yorkshire rival Kid Galahad to retain his IBF world featherweight title.

    Warrington, 28, hoped the contest would be his last in his home city for a while as he eyes potential unification fights in the United States.

    Kid Galahad, 29, from Sheffield, lost on a split 116-112, 116-113, 113-115 verdict.

  15. Second murder arrest over Sheffield tram death

    A second person has been arrested on suspicion of murder in connection with the death of a man who was hit by a tram in Sheffield.

    Martin Rigg, 37, was struck on 22 May near Convent Walk on West Street and died in hospital four days later.

    Police said a 24-year-old man was arrested on Friday. He has been released on bail.

    A 26-year-old man from the Shiregreen area of Sheffield was arrested on suspicion of murder last month.
