  4. 'We think he's brilliant' - crowds turn out for Trump

    Large crowds have turned out in London for the visit of Donald Trump today to Buckingham Palace.

    People came from across the country, including husband and wife Tony and Jennifer Holdcroft from Stoke-on-Trent.

    The pair, who describe themselves as "proud Brexiteers", said they made the trip down "to welcome the president and combat the protesters".

    "We think he's a brilliant man," said Mrs Holdcroft. "He's straight talking, he's firm and he looks after his own people.

    "This visit is about friendship, which we've had for years and years, and keeping up the alliance."

  5. Fire spreads at beauty spot

    A large fire at a beauty spot on the Cheshire-Staffordshire border is being fought by fire crews from both counties.

    Cheshire Fire Service said crews were first called at 14:45 to reports of the fire in Heatheride, Mow Cop, near Biddulph, and found a blaze covering 600 sq m (718 sq yds).

    But they said in strong winds, it quickly spread to 1,800 sq m (2,153 sq yds) and the wind speed's hampering their efforts.

    More fire engines have been called out, bringing the total to eight.

  9. Plans for £35m access road on show ahead of major revamp

    Plans for a £35m access road in Stafford are going on show this afternoon ahead of work starting this summer.

    The Western Access Route will join up the A34 Foregate Street with the A518 Newport Road, allowing traffic to bypass the centre of the town.

    Staffordshire County Council, which is behind the proposals, said the scheme was "essential" for the future growth of the town, for new housing and business developments.

    Today's event's at the Conservative Association in Castle Street from 14:00 to 19:00.

  10. Military charity 'struggling for funds'

    A lack of donations could mean the end of a war veterans charity, according to the volunteers behind it.

    The Tri-Service Centre in Newcastle-under-Lyme, Staffordshire, supports a range of military veterans, including soldiers who were involved in D-Day.

    But they say they don't own the building they're based in and are finding it tougher to get funding.

  12. Swans stop M6 traffic

    Thankfully this didn't turn into a real-life Hot Fuzz situation for police in Cheshire, after swans were spotted on the M6 this morning.

    Highways England said it happened just before 08:00 between J19 and J18 southbound and lane one had to be closed.

    Cheshire Police said they cleared the carriageway within half an hour.

    In Hot Fuzz, rural police officers Simon Pegg and Nick Frost are seen haplessly pursuing a swan which repeatedly escapes their grasp.

  13. Investigation launched after body found

    The "sudden" death of a man found at a property is being investigated.

    The 43-year-old's body was discovered at an address on Craven, Wilnecote at about 15:30 on Sunday.

    Officers and forensic investigators remained at the scene overnight, Staffordshire Police said.
