  3. Mother dies after car hits family

    The mother of three young boys has died after being hit by a car on the pavement on Battle High Street. She was pushing her baby son in a pram when a car mounted the pavement, crushing her against the front of a café.  

    Her husband and children have now all been released from hospital.

  5. Brawl at Varsity university rugby match to be investigated

    A brawl that broke out among spectators at a university sports event is under investigation by police.

    Bottles were thrown at the crowd and security staff during the Varsity rugby event between the universities of Brighton and Sussex.

  9. Varsity fight: A full investigation has been launched

    The two universities involved in the large fight which broke out yesterday at a varsity rugby match at Falmer have issued a joint statement. 

    Quote Message: "The scenes witnessed at the annual varsity sports day were shocking and disgraceful. A full investigation has been launched into events and any students identified as having participated in the disorder will face serious consequences under our codes of discipline. We unreservedly condemn the behaviour.   10. Does Brighton's i360 deserve an architecture award?

    Fourteen buildings, including the i360 viewing tower in Brighton, have been shortlisted for the Royal Institute of British Architects South East awards 2017.

    Other buildings nominated across the South East include Kingsdown House in The King's School in Canterbury, Command of the Oceans at Chatham's Historic Dockyard, Hastings Pier and Brighton College.

    The awards ceremony takes place on Thursday 25 May.

  11. Thousands of people took part in the Hastings Half Marathon

    It was the 33rd Hastings Half Marathon yesterday. 

    Ben Fish battled the windy conditions to cross the line first.

    It was the second victory for the man nicknamed 'the Blackburn Flyer'.

  12. Police called to fight at university

    Sussex Police were called to a report of a large fight that had broken out among spectators at a varsity rugby match at Falmer yesterday. 

    There were reports of bottles being thrown at the match between Sussex and Brighton universities and a number of people being injured. 

    Police say they are examining CCTV footage of the incident and want to speak to anyone who was injured or who may have witnessed what happened.

  15. Mother-of-three dies after crash in Battle

    A 37-year-old mother of three has died in hospital after a car crashed into her and her family in Battle yesterday afternoon (19 March).  

    She had been with her partner and three children at the time.

    Police say her partner suffered serious head injuries.

    The driver and the three children, including an infant in a pram, sustained shock and minor injuries and were treated at the Conquest Hospital in St Leonards.

    Sergeant Peter Verney, of the Sussex Police roads policing unit, said: "Our thoughts are very much with the family at what is a very difficult time, and we would ask people to respect their privacy while they try to come to terms with what has happened."
