    A1 Tyne And Wear - Queuing traffic on A1 Western Bypass northbound in Newcastle Upon Tyne at Kenton Bar Roundabout, because of an accident earlier on. All lanes have been re-opened. Travel time is around 60 minutes. Congestion to Dunston Interchange and to Dunston Interchange.

  3. Officer morale at Cleveland force has 'plummeted' claims Police Federation

    A survey of police forces claims morale at Cleveland has "plummeted".

    The research was carried out among rank and file officers by the Police Federation.

    It suggests Cleveland scored fifth lowest in the country and the worst in the North East for personal morale.

    Across the region, the survey also found many officers felt worse off, or overworked, than they did several years ago.

    The federation said overall morale was low among three in every five police officers in England and Wales.

    A video made by the Help For Heroes charity of a meeting between a war veteran and a five-year-old fundraiser has gone viral.

  5. Police appeal to trace charity box thief

    Police are trying to trace a woman in connection with the theft of a charity box earlier this month.

    The incident happened on 17 August in the reception area of the Metro Inns Hotel in Portrack, Stockton.

    At 10:45 a woman checked out of the hotel and once she had left the box belonging to Donna's Dream Homes had gone, it's believed she could be responsible for the theft.

    Police are describing her as 5ft 4in of slim build, aged between her late 40s to 50s and is thought to be from Newcastle.

  6. Ornaments stolen from child's grave on Teesside

    A variety of Disney ornaments have been taken from a child's grave on Teesside.

    The figures are believed to have been stolen from the grave of a four-year-old boy who died in 2004 in Eston Cemetery.

    Police say it happened sometime on Monday or Tuesday.

    A183 Tyne And Wear - A183 Coast Road in South Shields closed and slow traffic in both directions between the A1300 Redwell Lane junction and the Marsden Grotto junction, because of a serious accident.

  9. Hartlepool sign young Sunderland defender

    Hartlepool United have signed Sunderland under-23s defender Michael Ledger on loan.

    The 20-year-old from Consett has not yet made a first team appearance for the Black Cats, but has been brought in to strengthen Craig Harrison's side.

    The deal will keep Ledger at Victoria Park until January.

  10. Families facing death-registering delays

    Bereaved families in Stockton have seen an almost 450% increase in delays in the time it takes for deaths to be registered.

    The figures, compiled by BBC Local Radio, show more councils are failing to adhere to a five-day legal limit to register deaths.

    Families in Northumberland have also seen delays rise by more than 150%.

    In 2015/16, 187,605 deaths were registered after the five-day limit in England and Wales - a 70% rise on 2011/12, General Register Council (GRC) figures show.

    The Local Government Association says councils are working with the General Register office to reduce delays.

  11. Easington MP calls for inquiry into safety of A19

    The Labour MP for Easington is calling on the Government to investigate a stretch of the A19 which is prone to crashes.

    It comes after a petition was launched as part of campaign called Safe A19 which has the backing of hundreds of road users.

    Earlier this year BBC Newcastle sent a Freedom of Information request to Durham police and found that on a nine-mile section of the A19 in County Durham between Seaton and Peterlee there were 23 accidents in the 12 months up to the end of March.

  12. Northumbria Police appeal for missing Birmingham man

    Police are trying to trace a missing man originally from the Birmingham area.

    James Whitehouse, 34, is believed to have been at the pier near Sunderland Yacht Club at about 10:40 on Monday.

    He is known to travel across the country and also has links to Wales.

  13. Great North Run founder to join thousands on starting line

    The founder of the Great North Run will be officially starting the race this year.

    Brendan Foster has run the 13-mile course from Newcastle to South Shields three times but has never been on the starting line.
