  3. Temperatures set to creep up

    Temperatures falling below freezing yet again in the south west, with clear skies and lows of around -3C.

    As a weather front pushes in from the west, temperatures will creep up by the end of the evening - clouding over and heavy spells of rain.

    Another cold night in the Borders with temperatures falling as low as -2C further inland.

  4. Route relief

    A temporary one-way system in Galashiels town centre to allow for the safe construction of the new railway station has been lifted in time for peak Christmas trade.

    Remaining works will be required on Ladhope Vale between 5 and 26 January.

    The one-way system will be reinstated at that time.

  6. For sale: ambulance

    Galloway Mountain Rescue Team is selling its old ambulance, after it was replaced by a purpose built rescue vehicle last month.

    The team has used the Volkswagen Caravelle Synchro 4x4 LWB since it was donated by St John Scotland in 2001.

    Team spokesman Mike Kneeshaw said the specially-adapted vehicle has been "much appreciated by many rescued souls".

    With a price tag of around £7,200, he expects it to appeal to outdoor enthusiasts looking for a rugged camper van, or a vehicle recovery firm.

    Police report that the A76 south of Mennock in Dumfries and Galloway has reopened after the fatal road crash this morning.

  9. Meals offer

    Parents of primary one to three pupils in the Borders can sign their child up for a free school meal as part of a new Scottish government initiative.

  10. A76 crash victim identified

    Police Scotland have identified the woman killed in a crash involving a car and an ambulance on the A76 south of Mennock this morning.

    Zoe Clark, 24, of Carronbridge, died as a result of the collision.

    Two ambulance crew and two other people in the ambulance were taken to Dumfries Infirmary for treatment.

  11. Too late for Annan

    Arbroath maintained their three-point lead at the top of League Two at the weekend but were made to sweat against Annan Athletic.

    Two late goals were not quite enough to turn things around for the Galabank side.

  16. 'Suspicious behaviour'

    Police are trying to trace a man in relation to some "suspicious behaviour" on a Houston's bus between Lockerbie Academy and Boreland just after 15:30 on Friday.

    He took photographs of two girls aged 13 and 17 and also filmed them on a handheld tablet.

    The man is said to be about 50 years old with dark brown hair, of medium build, and was wearing a black and red woolly patterned hat and had a black rucksack with him.

  17. Stranraer shine

    Craig Malcolm scored a double to stretch Stranraer's unbeaten run to 15 matches at the weekend.

    Their 2-0 win over Morton at Stair Park moves the Blues into third place above Jim Duffy's side who started the day in top spot.

  18. You do the Macmath

    There are plans to breathe new life into a collection of long-forgotten Scottish folk songs, discovered 10 years ago in Kirkcudbright.

    A group of local musicians are to record and perform songs from the collection.

    Councillors have voted 4-3 to refuse permission for an anaerobic digestion sustainable energy plant at Ravelaw Farm near Whitsome in Berwickshire.

    Planning officials had recommended approval but some members were concerned about possible odour nuisance for local residents.

    There have been a spate of crashes across Dumfries and Galloway this morning including the fatal accident near Enterkinfoot on the A76.

    Other incidents have been reported in Moffat, Canonbie and Annan due to difficult driving conditions.

    The fatal accident was a head-on collision between a car and an ambulance.

  24. Flying high in Dubai

    A sports fanatic from the Stewartry has finished 46th in the Flyboarding World Cup in Dubai.

    It is a great achievement for Sonnie Bean, 22, who only took up the dramatic sport about six months ago.

    A flyboard is a type of water jet pack which propels the rider up to 15 metres into the air.

    He said he hopes to return to the event next year and he is aiming to finish in the top 20.

  28. Galashiels crash

    All three emergency services are in attendance at a crash in central Galashiels.

    Two cars and a bus were involved in the accident at the junction of Tweed Road and Nether Road just before 09:30.

    Fire crews from Galashiels and Selkirk are cutting one of the drivers free from the wreckage.

  31. Turbine expansion

    Councillors are to decide whether to allow plans to extend a wind farm in the Borders.

    Two community councils as well as walker and hill-runner organisations have objected to proposals to increase the size of the 11-turbine Glenkerie wind farm.

    But Scottish Borders Council officials have advised that there are no planning grounds to refuse the application.

  34. Fatal crash

    Two people died in a crash on Friday involving car and a lorry on the A6105 Duns to Greenlaw road.

    The 24-year-old driver and a 23-year-old passenger of a Toyota Corolla car died at the scene of the smash less than a mile west of Duns.

    In Dumfries and Galloway it will be a cold, windy morning with frequent showers at first - wintry on the hills and high road routes and the occasional rumble of thunder mixed in too. Icy in places.
