Six arrests as police probe dozens of UK burglaries

Six men have been arrested today by detectives investigating dozens of burglaries at pubs, restaurants and shops across the UK.

Cheshire Police is looking at 39 offences across eight police force areas - in many cases safes were targeted.

They include 14 in Cheshire, 10 in Merseyside and others in places including Staffordshire, Cumbria and Wales.

The men, aged between 19 and 45, were all arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to commit burglary.

Floods cause major rail disruption in North West

Heavy rain is causing major disruption on railways in the region.

All lines are blocked between Todmorden and Rochdale due to rain flooding the railway, Northern has tweeted.

There are also fewer trains running between Eccles and Earlestown fewer trains are able to run on all lines.

Police say wanted man did not appear on drug charges

Police say they want to find Jack Murphy, 18, who is wanted for failing to appear in court on drug dealing charges.

Officers say he is from Merseyside, but has strong links in South Cumbria.

He is described as 6ft tall, and may have a beard.

The former Liverpool player retired after being diagnosed with motor neurone disease.
Stephen Darby, who is married to England women's captain Steph Houghton, has motor neurone disease.

Walker, 70, injures shoulder in fall

Volunteers from the Cockermouth mountain rescue team and the North West Air Ambulance were called in after a 70-year-old walker fell, injuring her leg and shoulder, close to the 2,400ft summit of Robinson, overlooking Buttermere.

The woman was flown down to an ambulance in Keswick and then taken to the Cumberland Infirmary at Carlisle for treatment.
