  3. Public health bosses to get honorary degrees

    Two men who have been playing major roles in guiding Leicestershire through the coronavirus pandemic are to be awarded honorary degrees.

    Ivan Browne and Mike Sandys, Leicester and Leicestershire's directors of public health respectively, will be recognised by Loughborough University.

    A spokesman for the university said: "Since the start of the pandemic both have worked tirelessly to lead and guide the people and communities of Leicester and Leicestershire through one of the most challenging times in living memory."

    Both men said the award, which will be presented at the university's summer graduation ceremonies, was an "honour and privilege" but also emphasised they were part of wider teams.

    Syston's secret knitter has struck again, this time paying tribute to Leicester City FC who play in their first FA Cup semi-final in almost 40 years at the weekend.

    Other Leicestershire knitters have been inspired too, creating these spring-themed toppers.

    This week an Easter crocheted scene appeared in Melton Mowbray and a garden-themed topper appeared in Loughborough.

    Patricia Brinck who took the photo in Loughborough said: "I don't know who, but it's adorable. For sure lifted my mood."

  6. Today set to be mostly dry with sunny spells

    It's a misty and foggy start for some parts of the region but that will lift to leave a dry day with sunny spells and highs of 10C.

    There might be some patchy cloud later, perhaps bringing the chance of an odd light shower.

    This evening, any lingering showers will ease to leave a largely dry, clear night but a few showers may develop towards dawn with a light breeze and lows of -2C.

    Cloud will build a little through this afternoon with a chance of the odd shower later on, and sunshine too.

    The temperature is set to stay cool with highs of 11C.

    It will turn clearer and drier by the early hours of tomorrow with a cold and frosty night to come and temperatures down to -1C.
