Portsmouth will carry out enhanced security checks at Thursday's game with Sunderland after a social media user threatened to shoot and bomb supporters attending the game.
Police are investigating the matter ahead of the sold-out Sky Bet League One play-off semi-final second leg at Fratton Park.
Portsmouth said they were aware of the posts and working with Hampshire Constabulary.
The Twitter account has since been suspended.
"The club would like to reassure fans that there will be enhanced security checks in place for Thursday's play-off match against Sunderland at Fratton Park," read a Portsmouth statement.
"Due to these checks, all supporters with tickets are advised to arrive in plenty of time to make sure they are inside the stadium for the start of the game."

A Dorset project to help victims of domestic abuse is to be extended.
The Dragonfly project uses the symbol of a dragonfly to show people in an abusive situation where they can find confidential support and advice.
The project trains people to become champions within communities. They're able to receive and respond to disclosures of domestic violence and abuse.
Funding has now been secured to continue the Dragonfly project in Dorset and to extend it to Hampshire, the Isle of Wight and West Sussex.

Conservatives on Hampshire County Council have elected a former MP as their new leader.
Keith Mans is set to take over as the leader of the Tory-controlled authority at its annual meeting on 17 May.
The former RAF officer was the MP for Wyre in Lancashire between 1987 and 1997.
He will take over from Councillor Roy Perry, who became council leader in 2013.
