More rats reported since change to bin collections

BBC Coventry & Warwickshire

There's been a 8% rise in the number of rats reported in Coventry since the move to fortnightly bin collections, but the city council says there are a lot of other reasons for the rise.

In the 12 months before the change to bin collections in September 2017 there were 2,156 rats reported to the authority and in the following year that rose to 2,336.

A similar number was reported in the 10 months between September 2018 and June this year.

Mild winters and warm summers had led to a longer breeding season for the rats, the city council said, and that while it was an issue it took seriously, the rising rat populations were an issue for the whole country.
