European criminal record checks could take 11 times as long after Brexit, West Midlands Ch Supt Richard Baker has warned.
He told a Strategic Policing and Crime Board the process of checking on the criminal history of a European national takes about six days at the moment, but that could take as long as 66 days in future.
Ch Supt Baker said: "There will be an increase in potential risk that we are carrying because we are unaware of their previous criminal history.”
A spokesperson said: "Whilst there is no guarantee we will be successful in our bid to host a pro race in 2020, we have taken the early decision to move the date in order to align with the UCI calendar and deliver on our vision."
Entries will open on 1 October to previous participants and on 3 October to everyone who has pre-registered.
