Hospital trust missed out on £59m bonus

BBC Radio Derby

The trust that runs the Royal Derby Hospital has lost out on tens of millions of pounds because of an accounting change.

The University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trust was expecting to receive a £59m pound end-of-year bonus from the NHS for hitting its financial targets.

However, a last-minute accounting change meant they suddenly missed the target.

The change relates to the sale of assets worth £101m.

The hospital is refusing to say what the sale was but filed documents at the start of April, suggesting a property transaction occurred between the hospital, its charity, and its commercial arm, involving five large pieces of land.

The trust is expected to reveal more details next month.

Mother-of-eight 'abused' over council house complaint

Local Democracy Reporting Service

A mother-of-eight who complained about Charnwood Borough Council being unable to find a large enough house for her family says she has received "awful abuse" since her story went public.

Fay Hunter has been living in temporary accommodation - a four-bedroom house in Thurmaston - with her partner and children for the past year since the landlord at their previous home decided to sell up.

Ms Hunter said negative comments made about her situation online after it featured in the Leicester Mercury and BBC News website had left her not wanting to go out in public.

She said: "It's been awful, we have already had nasty letters through the door before but since the story went online it's got even worse.

"I've not wanted to go out of the house, the kids have been bullied at school about it, some of the stuff people have said is awful.

"They've not read the story and said we should get a job and stuff about the size of our family, my husband does work, he works full time."

Ms Hunter said she has spotted a council-owned five bedroom property in Syston that would suit her family.

Charnwood Borough Council said the house was recently purchased and would be allocated when it is ready.
