A man who brandished a meat cleaver in a Leicester shop, forcing an evacuation, has been given a suspended sentence.

Leicestershire Police said they were called to the store in New Park Street at 08:35 on 11 November to reports a man inside the shop had a knife.

He was challenged by officers until he put down the weapon and was arrested. A black lock knife was also found inside his backpack.

Police said witnesses in the store were "fearing for their lives" as they were evacuated, however no injuries were reported.
