MPs call for more investment in bus services
Staffordshire MPs say they want more investment in local bus services.
They've been discussing the issue in Parliament and the MP for the Staffordshire Moorlands, Karen Bradley described the public transport network as "woeful", with some services only running twice a day.
She said conversations with bus companies and local authorities showed a lack of funding and a lack of profitability were to blame.

Although considerably better in Stoke-on-Trent, local MP Jack Brereton, who called the debate, said bus services were often "too few, too slow and too infrequent".
He said cuts to services left the most vulnerable in society and those looking for work cut off.
Mr Brereton said opening up old railway stations in the area, taken out of action during the 1960s Beeching cuts, could also help the wider public transport network.
The government says it's committed to making sure there's equal access to services and employment, and good public buses are at the heart of it.

Staffordshire Police is one of only four forces in the country to see a drop in overall crime, in the latest figures from the Office for National Statistics.
Between September 2018 and September 2019, they show a 4% fall in the number of recorded crimes, excluding fraud.

The figures also show falls in the number of burglaries, sex offences, robberies, bike and vehicle crimes and violent crime resulting in injuries.
Temporary Chief Constable, Nick Baker, said he was "delighted" to be one of only four forces in the country to see a drop in overall crime.

Heritage railway to address its carbon footprint
The new woman in charge of the Severn Valley Railway says it will have to look at its carbon footprint in the future and conceded "we're using a lot of coal".
Helen Smith has taken over as the heritage railway's general manager and said part of her role was to prepare it for the future and said the board was "very active" on issues like this.

Ms Smith, who was previously deputy director of the Tank Museum in Dorset, said there had to be a balance, and at the same time, "we want to carry on operating steam engines as they were always operated".
The line, which runs roughly 16 miles between Kidderminster and Bridgnorth, operates a mix of steam and diesel locomotives, carrying some 250,000 passengers a year.
Those kind of challenges are going to have to be faced in the future. We're going to have to really kind of look at what we're doing and how we're doing it to make sure that we are acceptable in another 20, 30 years' time and are we going to be able to operate the same way?"

Closing ambulance base would 'put lives at risk'

BBC Radio Stoke
Lives will be lost if a town's community ambulance hub is shut, a former paramedic's told the BBC.
West Midlands Ambulance Service wants to remove the response base in Cheadle, Staffordshire, by the end of March.

Instead, it wants to convert the rapid response vehicle there into an ambulance as it says the current vehicle only attends 2.2% of calls in the area.
But former paramedic Carole Winning told BBC Radio Stoke she believes lives are at stake: "They're saying they'll have an ambulance here but they won't because they're so busy, they'll never get here."
Cheadle Town Councillor Dave Sargeant said it would take longer for ambulances to respond: "You've got areas like Whiston, Ipstones, Foxt. These are difficult places to get to and, if you think of somebody coming from Newcastle to Cheadle, a minimum time to get here, it's going to be 25 minutes."
The ambulance service said it believed the move would save money and would not change the level of ambulance cover in the area, "if anything, this will increase over the coming months".
The charity Mind estimates nearly two thirds of emergency services workers suffer some form of mental health problem.
