Mr Leahey has also just been made an Honorary Professorial Fellow from Lancaster University Management School in Strategy and Entrepreneurship.

Travel: Staveley water works still closing Main Street

BBC News Travel

Traffic is still being disrupted through Staveley after United Utilities closed Main Street for emergency water supply repairs earlier today.

The Stagecoach 555 bus service is only going to the northern end of the village.

Travel: Waterworks firm says road should reopen soon

The water company United Utilities has apologised after Staveley's main street was closed with little warning this morning, and said it should reopen by mid-afternoon.

A spokesman said the company had been installing a new connection when the customer lost supplies so the work became an emergency,

The closure prompted protests from local people because of disruption to traffic and public transport.

The spokesman said: "We are extremely sorry about the inconvenience this has caused for local people and are working hard to re-open the road as quickly as possible."

Mental health 'farm' project starts drive to grow funding

The Kendal mental health charity Growing Well, which uses cultivating fruit and veg to help people recover, has begun a £25,000 crowdfunding appeal after losing lottery funding and an NHS contract created a hole in its funding.

More than £8,000 was raised at two summer feasts held in one of the polytunnels at the Growing Well field at Sizergh, just outside Kendal.

The six-acre organic gardens have helped dozens of people recover from problems such as depression, but selling produce generates only a small share of the cost of providing the service.

Our volunteers tell us that we have the ability to rebuild and save lives. We know that now, in spite of public cuts to our funding, a growing number of people need our help."

The black marks that show possible fragments of history

Archaeologists have started their exploration of part of the Lakes School site near Windermere.

They are using ground-penetrating radar, producing traces like the one pictured above, where the black blodges may be fragments of concrete from the buildings that housed 300 boys liberated from Nazi concentration camps at the end of World War Two.

The Calgarth estate was originally built for people working on flying boats nearby, and after the "Windermere Boys" had lived there it was bulldozed to make way for the secondary school.

The archeological survey has centred at first on a school rugby pitch.

We've trawled through witness testimony, maps, plans, looking for information, descriptions of what these buildings might have looked like, we've overlain that on to modern maps, and that's what's given us the suggestion that one of those buildings should be here.
