A man’s suffered life-threatening injuries in a car crash in Bexhill-on-Sea.

It happened at 16:00 GMT on 1 February, when the black Vauxhall Corsa he was driving came off the A259 King Offa Way dual carriageway, near the bridge spanning Holliers Hill.

The car hit a tree and rebounded into the road, but no other vehicle was involved.

The road was closed for six hours and the 24-year-old victim has been taken to the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton.

Pro-EU vigil on Sussex seafront

Remain supporters are holding a candlelit vigil on Hove seafront this evening.

Organiser Susie Courtault, of Brighton and Hove for Europe, said it was "a very sad day for all those of us who have been fighting for the last three years to stop the UK leaving the EU".

She added: "Brighton and Hove is an inclusive, tolerant and progressive city and we hereby commit to continuing to uphold the ideals and values of the European Union."

Rise in unemployment in South East

Unemployment in the South East rose in the three months ending November 2019.

While it remains among the lowest levels in the country, the unemployment rate for people aged 16 years and over has risen by 0.2% since August to 3.3%.

It remains below the UK average of 3.8%, according to the Office of National Statistics.

Runaway fishing boat recovered by lifeboat volunteers

A fisherman had to call on lifeboat volunteers to help catch his runaway boat which had slipped out to sea.

The angler had been attempting to launch his 18ft vessel from the beach at Eastbourne, East Sussex, at about 06:00 GMT when it made its own way out to sea.

The Inshore Lifeboat was launched and the runaway boat was found travelling towards Sovereign Harbour.

Two volunteers made their way onto the boat and returned it to its owner.

Police are "extremely concerned" for the welfare of a mother and son.

Crystal Ayres, 33, and her seven-year-old son Elijah were last seen getting into a car in Battle 16:30 GMT on Monday.

The car was later located behind Battle railway station and it is believed the pair could be travelling by train.

Crystal is white, 5’ 2”, and with long blonde hair in a high ponytail.

She was last seen wearing a black skirt, black tights, a black and white blouse and a black cardigan.

Elijah is white, 3’ 9”, and with light brown hair, which is longer on the top and short on the sides.

He was last seen wearing his school uniform which is a dark green jumper, a white polo shirt, grey trousers and black shoes.
