Volunteers' face coverings production effort scrubs up nicely

Scrubs initiative
NHS Tayside

NHS Tayside has taken delivery of thousands of reusable face coverings, which were produced for staff as part of a local scrubs initiative.

The collaborative project between NHS Tayside, local industry, Dundee University, and community volunteers saw 5,000 sets of scrubs produced for frontline staff, with 1,000 of these being made by volunteers from the local community.

Once the scrubs target had been reached, the volunteer sewers turned their focus to face coverings, making about 10,000 reusable masks for staff across Tayside to use when in public spaces.

Woman stunned by son's unexpected arrival

Duncan Leatherdale

BBC News Online

A woman from County Durham has told the BBC how she went to hospital with unexplained stomach cramps only to give birth to a son after having no idea she was pregnant.

Following a scan, doctors told Daisy Young, of Crook, she was 37 weeks pregnant and in labour. Hospital staff rounded up clothes and nappies to give to the new mother.

Daisy, who had quit university in Dundee, has now returned home to the North East with her son Elijah.

She said: "It's changed everything in my life, but it's changed it in the best way possible."

About one in 2,500 births is a so-called "cryptic birth", which equals about 300 births in the UK per year, and here a variety of reasons why signs can be missed.
