Members of the Unite union voted to take industrial action last month.

This is the first two-day strike, with a three-day strike to follow from 5 November, a four-day stoppage from 18 November and a five-day strike from 2 December.

Unite say Bradford Council's "hardline attitude" is in "sharp contrast" with its bid to be UK City of Culture 2025.

Bradford Council said it was "disappointed" Unite members had voted for strike action and will try to keep as many services open as possible.

We want to sit down and talk. We've tried to engage with the authorities and say we'll speak about meaningful consultations, about getting things done and about suggestions our members can make."

Moors fires recovery will take 'decades' - National Trust

Large swathes of moorland were destroyed in April in a series of fire believed to have been started because of a discarded barbecue.

The Trust says the most significant fire, on 21 April destroyed 700 hectares (2.7 sq miles) of land and burnt for four days. It estimates £500,000 will be needed to repair the damage.

The fires destroyed important peat soils and the habitats of mountain hares and rare ground nesting birds, including curlew and twite.

The much-derided Pacers were originally constructed from the body of a bus frame and intended to have a maximum lifespan of 20 years.
