Police officer killed in crash 'touched so many lives'

A police officer who died in a crash in Staffordshire "touched the lives and hearts of so many people", his family have said.

Luke Van De Sande, from north Staffordshire, was riding his orange KTM motorcycle towards Cold Meece, near Stone, when his bike left the road last month.

The 28-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene.

Staffordshire Police said no other vehicle was involved and the officer was off-duty at the time.

His family added he was a "loving husband, son, brother, nephew and cousin" and they would "treasure the happy times and the wonderful memories we have".

McCabe 'bitterly disappointed' after losing court battle

Sheffield United co-owner Kevin McCabe has said he is "bitterly disappointed" after losing a High Court battle over the ownership of the club and is considering launching an appeal.

Earlier a judge ruled Mr McCabe (above left) must sell his 50% stake in the Premier League side to co-owner Prince Abdullah Bin Mosaad Bin Abdulaziz Al Saud (above right).

In a statement issued after the ruling, a spokesman for Mr McCabe said: "Kevin McCabe has been the longest serving director and/or owner of Sheffield United in the history of the club.

"For the McCabe family to have lost their connection with the football club in this manner and by way of this judgment is simply heart breaking.

"Serious consideration is now being given, with the advisers to Sheffield United Limited, to an appeal against the judgment."

A man who fell from a vehicle in Sheffield city centre this morning is recovering in hospital.

Derek Dooley Way was closed for a number of hours as police tried to work out what happened to lead to the injury.

The man was taken to hospital at about 10:15 following the incident which left him with a head injury.

It's not being treated as suspicious, police say.

Man charged with robbing shop of high-value whisky

A man's been charged with robbery after three bottles of whisky, worth nearly £4,000, were stolen from a shop in Cumbria.

A 42-year-old man from Sale, Greater Manchester is due before magistrates on 16 October accused of stealing the Teeling whisky from Cartmel Drink shop and Wine Snug in November.

Huddersfield street death murder accused appears in court

A man has appeared in court charged with the murder of a 21-year-old who died after being found injured in the street.

Paul Crowther appeared at Leeds Magistrates' Court this morning charged with murder and possession of a bladed article.

The 35-year-old, of Elm Way, in Birstall, has been remanded in custody to appear at Leeds Crown Court tomorrow.

Extra jail time for Rotherham abuser who trolled victim

A man jailed for 10 years for abusing young girls in Rotherham has been given an extra 45 months in prison for trolling one of his victims on social media.

Waseem Khaliq, 35, also made a phone call from prison to the National Crime Agency control centre threatening two of the investigating officers.

He said he knew where one of them lived, was close to finding out the address of the other, and hoped they died of cancer or Aids.

Khaliq was previously convicted of indecent assault and child abduction at Sheffield Crown Court as part of Operation Stovewood - the National Crime Agency's investigation into allegations of abuse and exploitation in Rotherham.

Today, at the same court, he was sentenced to another 45 months to run consecutively to his initial term after pleading guilty to three counts of witness intimidation.

South Yorkshire Police also launched an investigation following the arrest of three people on suspicion of public order offences and a 24-year-old man on suspicion of assault.

The force said the 24-year-old man was arrested following reports a steward had been assaulted inside the ground towards the end of the match.

Leeds fans clashed with stewards in the away end towards the latter stages of their side's 2-0 win.

Fighting also broke out in the East Stand.

"Barnsley Football Club and Leeds United Football Club are greatly disappointed by reports of violence at yesterday's game and will be working together to assess the matter," a statement said.

Hired Lamborghini crashes on M1

A hired Lamborghini was seen being driven "anti-socially" in Derby before the driver lost control of it on the M1, police have said.

Derbyshire Police's roads policing unit said the driver of the supercar crashed on the southbound carriageway, between junctions 28 and 29, at about 22:40 on Sunday.

"That’s the deposit well and truly lost," the unit added.

Police later confirmed no-one was hurt in the crash and no-one was arrested.

Sheffield United 'delighted' as court case concludes

Sheffield United say they're "delighted" that a High Court battle between co-owners Kevin McCabe and Prince Abdullah Bin Mosaad Bin Abdulaziz Al Saud over the ownership of the club has ended.

Following the lengthy legal dispute Mr McCabe has been ordered to sell his shares in the club to Prince Abdullah for £5m.

It follows a falling out between the two men over the running of the Premier League club.

"After over 20 months of contentious litigation, the Club is delighted that this judgment brings an end to the uncertainty over Sheffield United's future ownership", a statement said.

"It allows us to focus our full attention on the season ahead."

A man has been taken to hospital with injuries after "falling from a vehicle" on a major Sheffield road.

Huddersfield street death: 'Brightest star' tribute

The family of a 21-year-old woman found dead on a street in Huddersfield has paid tribute to a "kind and loving daughter".

Bethany Fields, from Leeds, was found on Fitzwilliam Street, Huddersfield, at about 18:10 last Thursday. West Yorkshire Police said she died at the scene.

Her family have paid tribute to her saying: "She was a "beautiful, talented, giving, and loving daughter, loved and respected by family, friends, colleagues and fellow students.

"She was travelling to Iceland to study the effects of glacial melts and to the Canary Islands to study volcanoes.

"She worked with a charitable organisation for people with physical and learning difficulties.

"Heaven has gained the brightest star of them all."

On an emotional night at the Stoke Speedway for The Potters, they ended up losing to Leicester Lion Cubs in front of hundreds of people.

The team had been racing at Loomer Road for the last 32 years but, earlier this month, revealed the stadium had been sold by its owners.

Club promoter Dave Tattum said he had never seen so many people, but didn't think speedway would return as "who has got an investment to build a £3m stadium around here?"

His view was echoed by Luke Priest, one of the riders on Saturday: "It's one of those sports that, once it goes, it's very, very hard to get back again."

A judge has ruled Sheffield United co-owner Kevin McCabe must sell his share in the club to fellow owner Prince Abdullah Bin Mosaad Bin Abdulaziz Al Saud following a legal dispute.

The order follows a High Court battle between the two men who fought over the running of the Premier League club after falling out.

In his ruling Mr Justice Fancourt said Mr McCabe must sell his share in the club for £5m.

In a statement posted on Twitter Prince Abdullah said he was "delighted" with the result and said his priority now is to "secure our position in the top tier for many years to come".

He went on to say he was "fully committed to continued investment in both the First Team and the Academy".

UTB LLC, a company controlled by Prince Abdullah, asked for declarations in respect of its rights under an investment and shareholders' agreement.

Trains disrupted between Stoke-on-Trent and Stone
