Police forces in the region have added their tributes to the Duke of Edinburgh after his death was announced shortly after 12:00.
Derbyshire Police Chief Constable Rachel Swann said: "Together with each police force in England and Wales, Derbyshire Constabulary offer our condolences to the Royal Family and join the nation in mourning this sad news."Copyright: PA Media
Leicestershire's Chief Constable Simon Cole said: "We have had the privilege of supporting visits that he has made to the force area on a number of occasions.
"The legacy for young people created by the Duke of Edinburgh's Award will live on in his memory."
And Nottinghamshire Police said: "As a force we are deeply saddened by the death of His Royal Highness the Duke of Edinburgh. Our thoughts are with Her Majesty the Queen and her family."
Friday sees another slightly milder start, with most of us waking up to temperatures of about 5C.
It won't get much warmer, with highs of 10C - and some scattered rain showers are expected across the region in the morning.

Don't be fooled by how sunny it looks, temperatures are starting at freezing today and will not reach the double digits.

Two men and a woman have been arrested after a man was stabbed in Leicester.
Officers were called to Gallowtree Gate at 15:30 GMT on 23 March where the victim was found with stab wounds.
He was airlifted to hospital with serious injuries but he has since been discharged.Copyright: Google
On Tuesday a 20-year-old man from Leicester was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder.
A 55-year-old man and a woman, 60, were also arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender on Wednesday.
Last week a 21-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder, but has since been released without charge.
It's going to be another very warm day today with fine sunshine as temperatures reach between 18C (64F) and 21C(70F) across the region.
