AFC Telford won't lose access to changing rooms and stand

BBC Shropshire
AFC Telford United will be able to continue using their main stand and changing rooms, despite the closure of the leisure, hospitality and fitness facilities at the Bucks Head stadium.
They'd been owned by Telford College, which announced this week it was shutting them down after spending two-and-a-half years unsuccessfully searching for a buyer.

Fans have been told the only change will be the catering for the hospitality boxes and directors of away teams, because the club is going to need to find a new supplier.
In the future, the football club says it will be "pursuing what future opportunities this matter may present to us", which could mean the club buying back those parts of the stadium, which they lost when the old club went out of business in 2004.

BBC Shropshire
An agency nurse has been suspended from working at the Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital Trust, following the death of a patient.
Concerns were raised as to whether the appropriate observations were made and about the agency nurse involved when the patient died unexpectedly in accident and emergency on 14 December.

The nurse is suspended until an investigation into what happened has been completed.
It's one of eight serious incidents reported by the trust that month.
Apart from the unexpected death, most incidents relate to delays in diagnosis and treatment, but there was also one fall that resulted in a wrist and head injury and two incidents in maternity.

Decision on green-belt development delayed
A decision on whether to build up to 3,000 homes on green-belt land near Tong has been put back until May.
Shropshire councillors had been due to discuss the principle of developing the land, just off junction three of the M54, on 12 February.
The council said it was "in light of further recent evidence published by the Black Country authorities regarding their ability to meet their own housing and employment needs".

Shropshire Council previously said the development was being considered with the needs of neighbouring authorities in mind.
But the idea appeared to be dead in December last year after those authorities failed to follow up their interest.
At that time, Shropshire Council Conservative leader Peter Nutting said the development was "very unlikely" to go ahead.

Tipton flooding caused by 'new burst' in pipe
The water main burst that flooded streets in Tipton on Tuesday morning appears to have been in a different spot to the one last October, South Staffs Water has said.
The company has been carrying out investigations to find out what caused the leak, to prevent it happening again, and said it had been limited in how close it could get.

It is also replacing a 300m section of pipe and has apologised to people living in the area and for the effect the work was having on traffic.
We have today been able to get a first look at the burst area. We believe the burst is a separate burst to the one we experienced last year

Read moreHealth and wellbeing programme faces £600k overspend
A health and wellbeing programme set up to take pressure off hospitals and social care services in Telford is expected to go over budget by £600,000.
The Telford and Wrekin Better Care Fund has a budget of nearly £24m and is jointly run by the council and the clinical commissioning group.

A report for the borough's health and wellbeing board said the 2.5% overspend was caused by demand for care beds and the council and CCG said they would absorb the costs equally.
Better care funds were established by the government in 2013 and the council and CCG have collaborated in Telford and Wrekin since 2017.
Its aim is to prevent admissions into hospital, support residents to live well and reduce the dependency on services.

Your comments: VAR heartbreak for Shrewsbury fans

BBC Radio Shropshire Sport
For a brief moment Shrewsbury Town fans thought they'd taken the lead against Liverpool last night, only to have it snatched away by VAR, which ruled the goal out for offside.
They've been reacting to the game on the BBC Radio Shropshire Facebook page and Jennifer Powell wrote: "The Shrews played well and it was cruel the way they lost, a disallowed goal, then an own goal. They did their best and I would imagine the supporters have had a great night out, great experience going to Anfield."

Gary Ray was critical of the perfomance and commented: "Looked flat tactically poor same old shrews for big games."
There are a few Liverpool fans in Shropshire and Chris Kynaston appears to be one of them. He wrote: "Delighted with our kids but pleased Town got their pay day as well as one hell of a memory to take away."
And Roger Grafton pointed out: "Out of both ties Shrewsbury scored more goals, just at the wrong end."

Police make more than 1,000 domestic abuse arrests
West Midlands Police has now arrested 1,090 people on suspicion of domestic abuse since the start of 2020.

The force is targeting domestic abuse in an intensive campaign and said it had detained suspects for offences ranging "from nasty assaults to bullying behaviour, harassment and breaches of restraining orders".
Among its latest arrests are a man from Coventry who allegedly held a hot iron to his partner's face, and another man from Netherton accused of biting a woman's ear in an attack on Christmas Day.
“Every day we are tracing and arresting people who are accused of domestic violence and abuse.
"Not just physical abuse, but also emotional, psychological, verbal and financial abuse," West Midlands Police Supt Sally Simpson said.

Report recommends upgrading town centre pool
Shrewsbury's town centre swimming pool is likely to get a refit, under proposals going before Shropshire councillors next week - and there could be a second pool built as well.
Four options for the Quarry Pool are on the table, with two of them being to do nothing, or to build a brand new facility - but those two options aren't being recommended in the report.

The two options being recommended are to refit the leisure centre with a competition pool and a leisure pool or to refit the centre with a leisure pool, and to build a competition pool at the town's Sundorne Sports Village.
If the cabinet approves the two recommendations, site investigations and financial estimates will be carried out for the remaining two options, and a decision would be made at a later date.

Burst pipe to be examined to find cause of leak
South Staffs Water will carry out tests to find out what caused this morning's pipe burst.
It happened at the same house that was badly affected by flooding in October and Andrew Lobley, its director of operations, said an examination of the pipe had then found it was in good condition, but had suffered "surface damage".

Mr Lobley said his team hadn't been able to excavate the main yet, but would carry out a similar examination this time.
We cut out a section of the water main that failed, to understand exactly what had happened. We had that forensically analysed, it came back and said the main itself was in good condition, but there was a small area of surface damage to the top of the main and that was the root cause of the previous burst
Watch: Floodwater flows down street like a river
Firefighters are still at the scene of the flooding in Tipton, helping clear up the mess.
But as you can see by this video, shot by local resident Helen Challis, it was like a fast-flowing river early this morning.
Resident woke to a 'roar' of water
Local resident Helen Challis said she had been woken in the early hours to a "roar" from the burst water main in Tipton.

"I was woken up by my husband just before five o'clock to say that 'it's happened again - the road's all flooded'.
"We opened the window and it was just like a roar - just the water running down the road."

"[I've been] coming out to make sure everybody's OK. Just checking around the local area.
"I popped around the school to see if we could do anything there.
"The power's gone, the gas, the electricity, everything's gone," she added, "so we're a bit stuck at the minute, we can't really do anything."

About 50 firefighters were sent to deal with the flooding in Tipton at its height.
A water rescue boat was also sent, West Midlands fire service added.
Three properties in Severn Close were evacuated.

Properties left without power
About 170 properties are now without power in the Tipton area after a water main burst, followed by a gas leak, says Western Power Distribution.

It says it has had to turn power off in the area to isolate a lower voltage cable which could have been damaged in the flood water.
It currently has no estimate of when power could be restored.
Gas leak 'impacting incident'
Flooding in Tipton had already shut multiple roads and a school, with householders rescued overnight.
But there are new problems at the scene of the burst main. The fire service says a property caught up in the flooding has partially collapsed.
It adds there's also a gas main leak "impacting on this incident".
Here are images of the damaged property:

About 150 houses have now been affected by flood water and a power cut, the fire service says.

Water is now being cleared from the scene.
