Report recommends upgrading town centre pool
Shrewsbury's town centre swimming pool is likely to get a refit, under proposals going before Shropshire councillors next week - and there could be a second pool built as well.
Four options for the Quarry Pool are on the table, with two of them being to do nothing, or to build a brand new facility - but those two options aren't being recommended in the report.

The two options being recommended are to refit the leisure centre with a competition pool and a leisure pool or to refit the centre with a leisure pool, and to build a competition pool at the town's Sundorne Sports Village.
If the cabinet approves the two recommendations, site investigations and financial estimates will be carried out for the remaining two options, and a decision would be made at a later date.

'Where are you going to get your inspiration from?'

BBC Midlands Today
Figures suggest the demand for communal work spaces for people who work from home has risen by 500% over the past 10 years.

The Moseley Exchange is one of a number of co-working spaces that have sprung up in Birmingham and is thought to be one of the first in the country.
With more people than ever working from home, these shared spaces can be a lifeline.
Digital technology is great because it means it gives you the freedom to work almost anywhere. The downside of that is... where are you going to get your inspiration from? ....where are you going to share your latest thing that you woke up in the morning and [thought] 'yeah that's something I would like to do'
Burst pipe to be examined to find cause of leak
South Staffs Water will carry out tests to find out what caused this morning's pipe burst.
It happened at the same house that was badly affected by flooding in October and Andrew Lobley, its director of operations, said an examination of the pipe had then found it was in good condition, but had suffered "surface damage".

Mr Lobley said his team hadn't been able to excavate the main yet, but would carry out a similar examination this time.
We cut out a section of the water main that failed, to understand exactly what had happened. We had that forensically analysed, it came back and said the main itself was in good condition, but there was a small area of surface damage to the top of the main and that was the root cause of the previous burst
Watch: Floodwater flows down street like a river
Firefighters are still at the scene of the flooding in Tipton, helping clear up the mess.
But as you can see by this video, shot by local resident Helen Challis, it was like a fast-flowing river early this morning.
Resident woke to a 'roar' of water
Local resident Helen Challis said she had been woken in the early hours to a "roar" from the burst water main in Tipton.

"I was woken up by my husband just before five o'clock to say that 'it's happened again - the road's all flooded'.
"We opened the window and it was just like a roar - just the water running down the road."

"[I've been] coming out to make sure everybody's OK. Just checking around the local area.
"I popped around the school to see if we could do anything there.
"The power's gone, the gas, the electricity, everything's gone," she added, "so we're a bit stuck at the minute, we can't really do anything."

Properties left without power
About 170 properties are now without power in the Tipton area after a water main burst, followed by a gas leak, says Western Power Distribution.

It says it has had to turn power off in the area to isolate a lower voltage cable which could have been damaged in the flood water.
It currently has no estimate of when power could be restored.
Gas leak 'impacting incident'
Flooding in Tipton had already shut multiple roads and a school, with householders rescued overnight.
But there are new problems at the scene of the burst main. The fire service says a property caught up in the flooding has partially collapsed.
It adds there's also a gas main leak "impacting on this incident".
Here are images of the damaged property:

About 150 houses have now been affected by flood water and a power cut, the fire service says.

Water is now being cleared from the scene.

A multi-agency briefing is being held at the scene of a burst water main in Tipton, the fire service says.

The incident began shortly before 04:40. About 150 properties fall within the flood area, with ten severely affected.
The fire service says it has six pumps in the area along with a rescue crew and high volume pump appliance.
West Midlands Police says it has officers on site supporting the fire service in traffic management. Multiple roads have been closed.

Commonwealth Games 'will put Birmingham on global stage'
Birmingham will be put on a "global stage" by holding the Commonwealth Games in 2022, the House of Lords has been told.

Digital, culture, media and sport minister Baroness Barran said the staging of the games would create jobs, improved transport links and new sports facilities.
"A thriving Midlands is essential to our national economic success and levelling up economic regional growth," she said.
"These games will put the city and the region on a global stage," Lady Barran added, in a second reading debate on the Birmingham Commonwealth Games Bill.
The Bill, reintroduced after the general election in December, will provide financial assistance to the organising committee and enable a transport plan to be drawn up.
Three-weekly household rubbish collections considered

Local Democracy Reporting Service
Household rubbish collections could move to once every three weeks under a shake-up in Birmingham.
The move, which has been proposed by consultants advising the city council, is only likely to be implemented if weekly food waste collections are introduced as well.

Councillor John O’Shea, in charge of waste, said that would mean the "smelly" waste which is the main concern to residents would still be taken away every seven days.
It comes as the first phase of an independent review of the waste service, conducted by consultants Wood Environment and Infrastructure Solutions UK, is published.
The report outlines three options:
- Maintain the service as it is currently but introduce a weekly food waste collection
- Introduce weekly food waste collections alongside fortnightly collections for recycling and residual waste – the remaining household waste once food is removed
- Introduce weekly food collections alongside fortnightly recycling collections and three-weekly residual waste collections
Conservative councillor Deirdre Alden, shadow member for cleaner streets, said: "Labour promised the electors of Birmingham less than two years ago, no ifs, no buts, there would be no fortnightly waste collections, Labour have now ordered consultants to draw up plans for three-weekly collections."

Hulme appointed as county cricket chairman
Former Shropshire opening batsman John Hulme has been appointed as the county's new cricket chairman.
Hulme, 69, who played cricket for Shropshire between 1970 and 1983, will replace Toby Shaw, who has been chairman since 2011.

Hulme, from Oswestry, whose appointment was confirmed at the club’s AGM, said: “It will be no easy task in trying to fill Toby Shaw’s very sizeable shoes.
"He has made an immense contribution to Shropshire cricket in recent years, promoting the interests of the county club and securing a very sound financial base, which is the envy of many other National Counties Cricket Association clubs.”
