'I would sell a kidney for the Baby Yoda toy'

BBC Business News

"I want a Baby Yoda toy so badly that I'd consider selling a kidney," jokes Star Wars fan and Instagram influencer Jessica Allsop, 26.

Ms Allsopp, from Rubery, fell in love with the character of "the Child" - affectionately known as "Baby Yoda" on social media - in the Disney+ TV show The Mandalorian as soon as she watched the first episode.

She then scoured the internet looking for merchandise from the Star Wars spin-off series, and says she is willing to pay up to £200 for an accurate replica of the Child.

She's not alone. Since The Mandalorian was released on 12 November in the US on Disney's new streaming service, the character has gone viral, and not just in America - the only place you can officially watch the show for now - but all over the world.

It has generated thousands of memes as fans discuss how cute the Child is and speculate about what will happen next in the series.

Yasir Hussain, from Burnley, was stabbed three times in the back in Dudley exactly a year ago.

Last month, Nabeel Choudhary, 21, of no fixed abode, was found guilty of murder and handed a 27-year minimum term.

But West Midlands Police said officers were still hunting the other people involved in the violence.

Mr Hussain's sister, Yasmin, said his death was still hurting their family.

It's just so hard, we miss him so much. We suffer everyday, life's never going to be the same again. Our kids are suffering, you have to be strong for the kids but it's just not fair, Yasir was innocent."

Thousands of children in temporary accommodation

Fourteen children become homeless every day across the region, the charity Shelter says.

Child
BBC

It said 7,370 children in the West Midlands are homeless and living in temporary accommodation.

The report looked at the impact of temporary accommodation like hostels and emergency bed and breakfasts (B&Bs) on families.

The charity's findings also suggest that homelessness is at its highest rate since 2006.

Shelter's findings only represent some of the children in Great Britain who are homeless. In England, there are thought to be a further 4470 homeless families who have found their own temporary accommodation.
